We wish our friend Stephano well in his new business in Kingston and are thrilled that he carries our eggs! If you’re up his way, check out his wonderful shop!
The absolutely delightful dancing chickens from The Royal Ballet's La Fille mal gardée! Ashton's joyful ballet will be streamed via our website on 29 January. Grab your ticket: stream.roh.org.uk
It is so windy today. I hope none of the chickens blow away.
Kind of like manna from heaven, except this is wood chips from the back of a truck! We slowly build the soil with the chips, which suppress weeds and break down over two years to enrich and build up some of the rocky parts of our landscape. For context, this mound is 6’ high and 12’ wide. The roots of the mugwort surrounding it clutch at a rocky patch that has virtually no soil to plant. ... Since it is virtually all rocks, mowing is ludicrous. This truckload of chips will create anough purchase for a mower to battle approximately 84’ x 84’ of mugwort in the spring. Two goats or sheep will further help control growth. We are slowly reclaiming the farm from invasives.
This is the chaff, from which we gleened the arugula seed. We will throw it in an area, hoping that we we will grow some feral plants.
This is our arugula seed winnowed from its chaff. We purposely allow some of our plants to go to seed so that we can grow them from our own seeds im the future. Lettuces can be grown through most of the year.
