Stair design has evolved over the years at MKA, as our aesthetic leans more and more toward clean, simple and modern. Here's a peek at a stair we designed for a house currently under construction in Nassau Point. Tap through the photos of stairs in houses we designed in years past. #MKArchitect #MerylKramerArchitect #DesignDetail

How to Succeed when Working with An Architect - A 3-Part Series There are 3 key qualities that create the ideal, synergistic working relationship between client and architect that produce the best results: trust, honesty, and a value of quality over quantity. Part 1 - TRUST... The design process is iterative. We help our clients determine their requirements and, together, we set priorities. Clients trust us to develop a design solution based on these understandings and our dialog continues as the project evolves and progresses. More to come from this series soon as we explore the two other qualities needed to succeed when working with an architect, so stay tuned! #MKArchitect #LifeofAnArchitect #ArchitectureDesign

We're checking in on the Wunneweta Pond renovation in Nassau Point, where demolition and concrete formwork is underway. Once the foundation and demo are complete, framing will continue and the transformation of this 1950's house will begin to be evident. #MKArchitect #NassauPoint #CustomHome

If you've been following along the AIA Long Island recognized-Beachwood House project, you'll recognize this space, but it might look different. This is an updated rendering of the double volume dining and circulation spaces. We’re experimenting with our rendering styles and using the capabilities of our software in new ways to get different looks at this project. #MKArchitect #AIALongIsland #WorkInProgress

Grays and white tones in various textures of porcelain, ceramic, clay, and marble...We are gathering many beautiful options for a house we're working on and keeping them all out on the table to continue to be inspired. #MKArchitect #MerylKramerArchitecture #TileSamples

Environmental and eco-friendly design is not a part of what we do; it is what we do. In the words of northforker: "Kramer's projects are prime examples of how modern ideals and principles can be blended with more traditional design elements and features, and how shifts in thinking about being more ecoconscious play in when it comes to home building. She spoke about a residential project in Orient, where the owners were intent on updating and renovating an old cauliflower distribution barn and the residential portion that had been attached to it, preserving certain design elements while making it more modern and eco-friendly." The figurative ink is still drying on this new rendering of the kitchen at the Southold Bay project. We love the mix of countertop materials to create a modern, interesting heart of the home. #MKArchitect #SoutholdBay #KitchenDesign

You may have seen the letters L-E-E-D next to a project or person in our industry and thought, "What does this really mean?" LEED stands for Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design and it provides a framework for healthy, efficient, and energy-saving green buildings. We are always thinking green and that mission starts at the top! Meryl is a part of LEED Accredited Professionals, a member of the U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC), and enthused about incorporating sustainable design, construction and operation into our projects. We're proud to be a part of the LEED instead of following the pack. #MKArchitect #MerylKramerArchitecture #LEED

Lighting does so much for a space. We love these Tech Lighting fixtures in the James Creek Pool House project. They provide uplighting and downlighting in a single fixture, as well as allow an unobstructed view of the red cedar clad cathedral ceiling. We enjoyed seeing the details of this project come together. Let the light in. #homerenovation We love how the refinished wide plank pine floors, unlacquered brass fixtures and fittings and a light + airy color palette of this renovation complement the existing house. https://www.mkarchitect.com/project/robinson-lane/

The Northforker’s description of our work is spot on. Kramer’s fluent, fluid soft modern approach to a project may result in the blurring of distinctions between exteriors and interiors when appropriate - Northforker

2020 has certainly been challenging year in many ways for all of us. However, all of the uncertainty has given us unwavering clarity on what’s truly important in life. We are thankful and feel so much gratitude for our health, our friends and families, our clients and supporters. Without you all, we would not be able to do what we do. Thank you.

Although the furnishings and decorations are yet to be completed, here's a preview of our most recent Orient renovation and addition. What a great spot to get cozy with a hot beverage (or a glass of wine) and a good book around the fireplace. #interiordetails #modernhome #northforkarchitect

What we’re working on: Our design for this Shelter Island home renovation clarifies the existing volumes and rooflines, while dramatically improving the home’s functionality for a family of five. #inprogress https://www.mkarchitect.com/project/westmoreland/
