As someone whose career is built around teaching and guiding others through mindful movement, when I don’t keep up the practice of filling up my own cup à la mindful movement, conscious stillness, connection and support from others I am left depleted. Today’s first LIVE Conscious Body Community Pilates class + Community Chat, created and led by @caitlinjavech, was just was I needed. I am already so glad I made this 12 week commitment for myself, alongside nine other ...incredible women. Those of us who have been drawn to a helping profession or caretaking roles in our personal lives likely made these choices because we have needed, experienced, and acknowledged the immense value said work provides. It’s so common for those of us who spend our days tending to others’ needs to struggle with carving out time to offer ourselves what we offer to others. We probably sense that we are out of balance. We know cognitively that’s it’s important to create balance in our lives. We may even know what that balance would look like and feel like for us. But that is not the same as consistently creating space for and receiving the benefits of self-care practices + connection & care from others. Each of us are humans, with at least very similar needs as all the other humans. You know you have to eat every day. Sleep each night, or suffer very real consequences. Drink water too. You know if you don’t put gas in your car before (or when) it’s on empty, you won’t be able to drive it anywhere. You know if you don’t charge your phone battery it will shut off until it’s recharged. Your mind, your soul, your body works the same way! Sustaining all parts of yourself takes regular fuel and maintenance. Do you have a routine, a plan, support, guidance, and accountability for how to nourish your body, mind, and soul? Sending out these wishes to feel connection to my loved ones who I cannot physically be with to hug, talk with, laugh with, and eat with today. Grateful. To be spending this Thanksgiving home with my partner. Though we’re acknowledging it is certainly tinged with the loss and disappointment of not being able to be with our families as well. But mostly grateful. That he is willing to try new things and allows me to express myself in my primary love languagesharing mindful restorative movement experiences. This is his first supta baddha konasana (don’t worry, we got the soles of his feet together after the photo).... He’s already a pro at legs up the wall... what restorative yoga pose do you think he should experience next?
