Message from MAGS President: Dear MAGS Community, Happy New Year to you and your loved ones! We hope this year will be a better one with the availability of the COVID-19 vaccines and the continuous respect of preventive measures.... We thank you for all your contribution during this difficult time. We shall always remember those who have lost their lives in this battle against COVID-19.MAGS remains committed to advocate for our older adults and all the health care workers caring for them. This week, we met with NYCDOH to learn more about the plan in place to effectively vaccinate the most vulnerable population. We were pleased to learn more about the measures to assist older adults with limited mobility getting vaccinated. While we are hopeful for more vaccine supplies and additional vaccination sites, we have shared our concerns for those who are: socially isolated unable to navigate the health system unable to schedule an appointment online or via the phone. We appreciate all the work being done by NY State, the City of NY, NYCDOH, the medical facilities and all the health care workers who have worked tirelessly to contain this pandemic. While continuing its mission of advocacy, MAGS remains committed to education. We look forward to seeing you all at our upcoming webinar on the Management of Dementia Related Behaviors on Wednesday March 17, 2021, organized in collaboration with NYACP. It is with great sadness that MAGS reports the death of Dr. Jeffrey Escher from COVID-19. Dr. Escher was instrumental in the establishment of MAGS and was an amazing Geriatrician and person. There is a memorial service today at 11am. Family ask for donations in his memory to be donated to the Alzheimer's Association. His legacy will live on through MAGS and all who knew him.
