A MESSAGE FROM THE SOCIETY Dear Friends We hope our letter finds you all in good health. The year has been exceedingly difficult for our nation, the world, and for all of us. Our thoughts and prayers go out to anyone who has lost a loved one or otherwise been impacted by this pandemic. Our prayers and best wishes go out to members, their families, and friends who have in any way been negatively impacted by the current events. This year has been challenging for our soci...ety as well. We had to postpone our dinner dance, and cancel picnics, and other scheduled events. In the meantime, rental revenue from the city has been impacted as both tenants’ rents are subsidized by the city. The absence of rental revenue as well as the anticipated income from the cancelled events has substantially impacted our society and its ability to handle necessary expenses and repairs. We now have emergency repairs needed at the building. Work needs to be done on the boiler to bring it up to city standards and file it with the city, implement new regulations compliance required by the city, as well as repair of broken sewer pipes and much needed maintenance. We realize this is a difficult time for everyone, and most have been impacted by the current situation. Our society has reached a critical financial point and although we would prefer not to, we find we have no other recourse but to appeal to our membership for help. With mandatory restrictions in place we are limited in what fundraising we can do. During the upcoming period, we intend to do a virtual raffle-based fundraiser to help with funding these critical repairs. Your participation with the raffle would be appreciate. We also urge you consider a donation directly earmarked for those emergency building expenses. We need your support at this critical time to help maintain the Kardamylian Spiti, and the 85-year presence of our Society in the United States so that its work can continue and the Society be passed on to the next generation. For your convenience we now accept credit cards from our website http://www.kardamyla.org/OnlineContrib.html. THE PASSING OF THEODORE K. TETTONIS To my MSK relatives and friends. My sincere gratitude for your condolences on the passing of my brother Theodore K.Tettonis. He will be greatly missed. Although his passing was not due to COVID 19 , restrictions prevent us from having a long service. We will be having a short ceremony at Holy Cross Greek Orthodox Church on Friday morning. DINNER DANCE UPDATE April 10, 2020 Dear Fellow Kardamylians & Friends:... We trust that you, your families and loved ones are safe and coping as best as possible with the pandemic associated with the Covid-19, Coronavirus. Further to our March letter advising that the March 21st dinner dance was being postponed we wish to send you an update to notify you that, at this time, we have looked into rescheduling but with the ongoing situation we cannot establish a date yet. For us, of utmost importance, is the health and safety of our members and friends. We will continue to monitor the conditions and will reschedule once the pandemic has passed, restrictions are removed, and events have normalized. We will notify you of the new date once it is established. In view of the current situation we have also decided that it is best to cancel the New Jersey Picnic usually held in June, as well as the Long Island Picnic held in September. In the meantime, we urge you to adhere to the guidelines provided by the CDC and the local authorities for your safety and that of your friends and loved ones. As we head into our holy week of Easter, we’d like to take the time to wish you all ! Our best wishes to you all. Stay healthy and safe. Sincerely, Vivian Gemelos, President - Mark K. Tettonis, Secretary
