Yesterday Congressman Jamaal Bowman toured three MHACY properties to meet with tenants and see the progress of the RAD conversions. He visited Troy Manor, Calcagno Homes and Palisades Tower. Congressman Bowman was able to speak with Hispanic tenants at Troy with Carlos Laboy-Diaz, MHACY COO, serving as a translator. He also visited the #DMX Mural at Calcagno, toured the new gym and met with Resident Advisory Board member Beatrice Blanco. He also spoke with Resident Coordinator Sade Glover about her work for MHACY, her recent The Business Council of Westchester 40 under 40 Award and the MHACY & FSSY partnership. Lastly, he visited with tenants at Palisades Tower where he met with residents of all ages and even played a little football!

Throughout May, we recognize Mental Health Awareness Month. According to NAMI (National Alliance of Mental Illness), 35.8% of adults in New York deal with anxiety or depression and 145,000 youth aged 12-17 in New York have depression. As a community it is imperative we address mental health not only this month, but every month and every day. In an effort to equip our community with the tools needed to address mental health concerns, we invite you to join a Wellness Webinar... today, May 25th at 12 p.m. The following partners will also be in attendance, so residents can learn about services in our community: - NYC Department of Health and Mental Hygiene - Westchester County Department of Community Mental Health - NAMI Westchester, Inc. As of May 12, public housing and Section 8 voucher residents can apply for the temporary Emergency Broadband Benefit Program (EBBP) to receive a monthly discount on internet access, as well as a one-time discount on equipment. The Federal Communication Program (FCC) program offers $50/month off of broadband service, $75/month off of broadband service on Tribal land, and a one-time discount of $100 for a laptop, tablet, or desktop, as long as consumers pay between $10-$50. The... program pays internet service providers directly, sending discounted bills to participants. The EBBP limits families to one monthly broadband discount and one device discount per household, defined as people living together who also share money. This is a temporary program, which will end either when funding is exhausted or six months after the Department of Health of Human Services (HHS) announces the end of the COVID-19 emergency.
