The recent icy weather was a big topic in our PreK group. Two scholars brought with them some icicles. This prompted a robust discussion about the weather and safety. It was rich with vocabulary and academia! THEN, this query: "What is icicles could talk?" Hmm... As you can see, we got a little deep. We made icicle puppets out of foil and some of us even created books featuring an icicle as a main character! I LOVE MY JOB!
I recently saw in the newspaper the importance of teaching diversity even in the early childhood setting. In December Ms. Sue and Ms. Janet treated us to a Hanukah event. Not only was it fun, but it was also delicious! Food, lights and music are often the cement of a celebration. We learned so much!
Hello to all our MHA families. Stress can be such a constant in our lives. Temple Sinai is pleased to share this virtual event with everyone. It is important that we be mindful of the effects of stress on our bodies and our ability to interact with others. May this post simply remind you that you are important, and you are loved. Thank you for taking time to take charge of stress...even if it is just a few minutes. Color Monster reminds us to be more "green" with our emotions. Ahhhh, so calm...
Thank you to all the parents who came to cheer on our Thanksgiving Parade. Our band led us out the doors followed by special section for balloons. Our parade concluded with the famous turkey and the traditional Macy's conclusion. Snacks were shared. There were even snowflakes later in the day!
A mumble and a grumble is not peaceful. We honored Peace Day with a new book and some artwork. Peace is joyful. Peace is comfortable and welcoming. One of our friends also pondered: "So peace feels like home?" YES...imagine that! while John Lennon's music danced in my head.
To create something new, whether it is drawing, painting, writing or even building, requires courage. Once you get started the confidence grows! The Dot is a great cuddle and chat story!
https://www.facebook.com/InternationalDotDay/ September 15, 2021: Join us all day to celebrate courage, creativity and collaboration. Check out the link for great ideas and to listen to Peter Reynolds chat about his book, The Dot.
The Open House event for Thursday will be rescheduled. Please watch for the announcement. Thank you!
This week we learned about the use of color. Some artists focused on lines, some on circles and one had a blue period. Some artists thought the colors would dance on the canvas. One of our young artists was quoted: "This paint is so satisfying!" Carry on little scholar!!
Wow! We found color in nature. Flowers made the best colors. The flowers were PINK but the paper turned blue and purple...
During Ice Week we recycled milk cartons (#Middiesmealsonthemove) to create ice boats. Ice boats melt FAST on the sidewalk. Plastic boats do not melt and in fact moved better. We experimented with different types of water flow and adjusting our river bed. We discovered we needed more power to make it to the bottom. The water pumpers worked even better when we used team work! Our favorite item to propel was the rubber ducky...it did not jackknife the the boat. Hmm, so much thinking going on!
This week at Camp MHA we worked with Cold and Hot. Some highlights include: Lemonade in a bag, Ice painting and Chocolate Cookie Dough Ice Pops...still getting frozen! We also built a solar oven. We melted chocolate bars and ate it with pretzel sticks, YUM!
So happy to see the Toddlers celebrated Earth Day! They discussed keeping the playground clean and taking care of flowers and worms. Did you know worms were really important?
Thank you for asking! YES, we are open this summer. Reach out at [email protected] Our schedule is under construction and will be posted soon!
First came the Jack in the Box. Amazing how fascinated they were! Then a little engineering inspiration... What shall I launch from the top? Can I get it in the basket? Love her thinking!
Poetry and art today. We can dance to a poem. We can paint to express a poem. We can illustrate. I love the letter study one scholar did on her own! She found ALL the letters with holes. She is making very strong observations that will help her when she is ready to read and write!
Can you hear them? I think they are saying: "Though we are small we are mighty!". We planted forever ago. What joy to see our plants working so hard!
Thank you to our friends at Middletown Schools. Meals are available for pick up. Fresh produce is part of the package! #MiddiesMealsontheMove
What did you do this week? In case you needed something to talk about! Have a wonderful weekend!
In April we celebrated pets. Someone has a new bunny. We read a book about a bunny and learned how to illustrate a bunny by tracing 2 fingers for ears!
From our friends at Middletown Schools. All are welcome! Thank you for continuing to support our community! #middiesmealsonthemove
Our first visitor! We may need more food.... I know what kind of bird it is; do you?
Keep earning those Kindness hearts! No matter your size, you can be the light. Remember: You are important!
We all know what warms us up the best! We created a graph to show what we like best on a cold shivery day. Which got the most votes? Don't forget you can listen to Chicken Soup with Rice any month you like. Just grab your dance partner first!
We celebrated the Alphabet with homemade Alphabet soup. It smelled so delicious!
Run, run as fast as you can....but don't get wet! This was an awesome experiment to see what would happen if the Gingerbread Man went into the river.
Huge gross factor here..but enlightening.
