Join us at the Snowball on Saturday to honor 2020 Highland Husky Hall of Fame inductee, the late Michael Oremus. Michael Kevin Oremus was born in Poughkeepsie, ...NY, and from an early age, he was active in the Town of Highland’s recreation programs. He participated in soccer, basketball, and Little League. His passion was for soccer and he played on several travel soccer teams, the Highland Varsity Soccer team from his freshman year to his senior year, and in his senior year, he was a team captain. After graduation, Michael attended Dutchess Community College, where he also played on the soccer team. After one year, Michael enlisted in the U.S. Army and hoped to someday become a New York State Trooper. In 2005, he was assigned to the 187th Military Police Company, Camp Walker, Daegu, Korea. While stationed in Korea, Michael was recognized by his superiors for exceptional performance and was selected to join the Special Reaction team, a position normally held by high ranking soldiers. In June 2006, Michael’s unit was deployed to Iraq, where their duties included providing security and training to Iraqi Police. Tragically, on October 2, 2006, Michael was killed in action by a sniper. Michael was posthumously promoted to Corporal. He was awarded the Bronze Star, Purple Heart, National Defense Service Medal, Iraqi Campaign Medal, Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, Korean Defense Service Medal, and the Army Service Ribbon and Combat Action Badge. In February 2007, to honor the spirit and memory of Michael, family and friends came together to form the Michael Oremus Foundation, a charitable organization dedicated to providing academic scholarships and funding for recreational and educational activities to children and families in Ulster County. We are proud to induct Corporal Michael Oremus to the Husky Hall of Fame. For tickets to Snowball, please text (845) 430-5679 or email [email protected]. Tickets are $65.
