It’s always an exciting week when big trucks are on the scene! We’re sending a HUGE shout out to the Blacktop Maintenance Corp paving crew for giving us a beautiful new parking lot! They’ve been great to work with and their work will help to increase safety and accessibility for our guests when we reopen. Bye-bye cracks, water pools and divots! Hello new smooth surface, better surface drainage, new striping, and relocated handicapped parking spots!

Phew! It was a wonderful 24 hours of philanthropic excitement around here on Wednesday! THANK YOU to all who helped us surpass our $12,000 goal by making a gift to our 2021 Hudson Valley Gives campaign! As of this morning we stand at $13,581 raised from 88 donors ... and we even captured the Night Owl Power Hour prize of $750 for being the campaign that raised the most money online between 10:00 pm 11:59pm. All campaign portals will remain open for a few more days. If yo...u were unable to participate in yesterday's Hudson Valley Gives 2021 Day of Giving, there is still time to make a difference for the local organizations you care about. Big gifts. LIttle gifts. They ALL make a difference and are all very much appreciated! TODAY is the kick-off of the Poughkeepsie Waterfront Market's FIFTH season! Rain or shine, we'll be running every Monday afternoon through October from 3-6:30 pm in our Pavilion. JOIN US! BTW - Ever wonder WHY a children's museum would ever run a farmers market? When we began offering healthy eating programs as part of our school readiness work for local families with young children in 2015, we quickly learned how difficult it was for some of our closest neighbors to get ...nutritious food. Our museum is located in a food desert - meaning that for many residents fresh, healthy food is both inaccessible and unaffordable. With support from Dutchess Outreach and other local farmers markets, MHCM decided we wanted to help connect families with food. In 2018, we became a SNAP-certified Market, which means that families receiving SNAP/EBT benefits can shop here and use their benefits to purchase fresh, locally-sourced food. Starting June 1, we also participate in WIC's Farmers Market Nutrition Program, which allows our produce vendors to accept FMNP checks for the purchase of fruits and vegetables. If you've never shopped a farmers market with your child, we strongly encourage you to do so. You will find fresh items and varieties not available anywhere else. You will also be able to introduce your child to farmers, chefs, and other food producers and help them become educated consumers. Hope to see you at the Market! PLEASE SHARE

In the height of the COVID-19 pandemic, when museums around the world were shuttered ... MHCM quickly realized that one of our core public programs - our farmers market - was an essential business and could play an important role in connecting local Poughkeepsie residents to fresh, healthy food. We also moved our children's garden into production mode so that we could grown food for our neighbors at Rip Van Winkle House Apartments. We extend our thanks to the Association of ...Science and Technology Centers for helping to tell our story! Because our Market is usually supported by the Museum's earned revenue, this season's Market could not have happened without grants from the following organizations. We extend our deepest thanks to all! Voya Foundation Humanities New York Stewart's Shops City of Poughkeepsie Dyson Foundation Community Foundations of the Hudson Valley Dutchess County Government Garden Club of Orange and Dutchess Counties The George Strba Charitable Trust The Evelyn Davies Charitable Trust But it was the significant financial support from INDIVIDUALS that helped us extend our Market ... once again. For the first time, our Market will run through October 2020. Thank you for your support and for helping us help our community stay connected with fresh, healthy food at this critical time!
