Meet the Lab Artists! Lindsay DuPont @lindsayhdp... My portraits, collages and drawings get their energy from the immediate conversation that takes place in the process of drawing, painting, shuffling and doodling. There is no predetermined plan. There is work (and play) inspired by the world around me as in, the posture of a tall blade of grass and/or by my inheritence, a funny bone. There are illustrative portraits of invented people and portraits of unnamable cartoon like shapes. There is more comedy than tragedy. My goal is to entertain myself and to cling to the bright side of life. Meet the Lab Artists! Connie Brown @conniebrownart ... I am a Connecticut based artist who received a BFA in studio art from the University of Arizona. After focusing on sculpting and painting landscapes I became fascinated by the challenge of creating abstract imagery. My paintings reflect the relationships between form and color. I like to work intuitively but also referencing line and form from previous drawings or paintings. Meet the Crit Artists! Kristin Street @kristinsstreet Born in Providence, Rhode Island, I moved through RI public schools, graduating with honors from Hope High School, and went on to earn a BFA in Textiles from the Rhode Island School of Design and later, an MFA from The Maryland Institute College of Art, in Sculpture/Studio Art. While some time has been spent promoting the efforts of other artists through curatorial work, I have maintained a consistent exhibition schedule ...over the years, showing in museums and galleries locally, nationally and internationally. I currently live in Foster, Rhode Island. I am interested in exploring how different media can be used to interpret an exploration of natural and constructed elements. Much of my work utilizes grids and circular motifs, where I rely on observation of organic and man-made forms at a microscopic and also immediate scale for inspiration. I find intermingling these components an endless source of opportunity for discovery. Happy New Year from the Crit Lab! During year so filled with anguish artists continued to persevere, to create beauty, express sadness and heartache and joy. I have been humbled and honored by the generous spiritof the artists I've worked with this year, andlook forward to expanding our practiceof radical listening. Like everyone the Crit Lab went virtual. Along with our regular 5 month sessions, we hosted our first Master Class and our first Crit Lab AltMFA- complete wit...h amazing lectures, critiques, drawing collaborations with Caroline Wells Chandler, Andrea Kantrowitz and Angie Brew, a walking project with Chris Kaczmarek, and zoom dancing parties (!!!) at the end of each day. All more inspiring and fun than I could have dreamed. The AltMFA theme ofradical listening-as a choice and a stance.As2020rounds, this listening speaks to a yearning and a hope for our objects and for our communities.
