*Santa has Arrived* Santa Claus has arrived in town and will be at the Jefferson Valley Mall located at 650 Lee Blvd in Yorktown until 3pm today! Children will also be handed a candy cane at this event as they sit in the vehicles and the vehicles pass through the parking lot. We are located in the upper level parking lot (Rt 6 side) closer to the former Sears. Look for our Fire-Police members directing vehicles into the parking lot. *Due to Covid, this event in Yoemtown is ...in place of our annual Candy Cane Runs through the streets which would have taken place today* For health concerns please note: -All passengers must remain in vehicles at all times -No in person photographs with Santa -No children are to approach Santa -All involved MUST wear masks and remain socially distanced

*Chimney Fire* At 3:17am this morning Friday 10/30/20 in heavy rain, Mohegan FD (volunteer and career) were dispatched to Concord Dr in Cortlandt for a reported stove fire. Upon arrival of units, a haze of smoke was found in the residence, with a red hot wood stove pipe. The fire was found to be contained to the wood burning stove, but firefighters cleaned out the wood stove to ensure that the fire was completely out. The residence, both interior and exterior, was also checke...d with a thermal imaging camera to check for any possible heat and extension. No additional heat was found and the residence was ventilated using an exhaust fan. Thankfully no damage occurred to the residence or the wood stove. The burning wood and embers from the wood stove were extinguished safely outside in the street using a water can extinguisher. Units on scene were Car 2261, 2262, 2269, 22610, Engine 256, Engine 257, Ladder 35, and Rescue 32. We remind everybody to have their wood burning stoves, fireplaces, pellet stoves, and chimneys checked and cleaned annually prior to use. Please check the link in the comments section for safety tips on chimneys. All units cleared by 4:15am. See more

Entergy to Test Indian Point Siren System Buchanan, N.Y. The Indian Point Energy Center emergency notification sirens will sound during a regular quarterly te...st of the system on Thursday, Oct. 15 between 10:30 and 11 a.m. As part of this test, sirens will sound at full volume for approximately four minutes in Westchester, Rockland, Orange and Putnam counties. Because this is only a test, the public is not required to respond during the siren sounding. PLEASE NOTE: Sirens are not a signal to evacuate. In an actual emergency, the sirens would sound to alert the public to tune in to a local Emergency Alert System (EAS) radio or television station for important information and direction. These stations are listed in the emergency planning booklet mailed to households and businesses in the 10-mile Emergency Planning Zone around Indian Point. An electronic version of the booklet is posted on the Indian Point web site, www.safesecurevital.com.

(LODD Funeral) Yesterday Saturday 9/26/20, a few members of Mohegan FD travelled upstate to pay their respects at the Line of Duty Death (LODD) funeral for Whitehall Volunteer Fire Company Inc. (Washington County) 2nd Asstistant Chief James P. Brooks Jr. At approximately 10:30am on Friday, September 18, 2020, Second Assistant Chief Brooks succumbed to injuries as a result of a mutual aid structure fire on 5/2/20. Asst Chief Brooks responded to a structure fire in Dresden, NY ...and suffered intense pain while tending to his duties as a second alarm mutual aid company. He was transport by Skenesborough Emergency Squad to Rutland Hospital in Rutland, Vermont for further evaluation. It was determined the firefighter had suffered a torn aorta and a medical flight was necessary to the University of Vermont Medical Center in Burlington, Vermont. During surgery to repair the valve resulted in Chief Brooks experiencing three strokes during the procedure. These strokes left the firefighter confined to a wheelchair with only the use of his right arm. We would like to extend our condolences to the Whitehall FD, family and friends during this tough time.
