Have you met Tripod? Our resident Eastern Box Turtle is named Tripod because she lost a leg due to a severe injury. She's now an animal ambassador for all turtles at Mohonk Preserve! Eastern Box Turtles are found throughout the Hudson Valley and Long Island, however, they are a Species of Special Concern in New York State. Tripod loves to eat greens like kale, lettuce and cabbage. She also loves berries! Along with her fruits and vegetables, she eats mealworms (beetle larva).... In the summer months, she spends time in the "turtle pool" outside the Visitor Center where she gets come Vitamin D and finds a few millepedes, centipedes and more to snack on! She really loves to get attention from people and misses seeing everyone visit her in the Children's Corner in the Visitor Center. She will patiently wait for the okay for visitors to come back and explore more of the Visitor Center. : Lauren Borer, Education Outreach Coordinator
