Happy August First: Blessed Lammas! Today is one of the four sacred `cross quarter days'; the 1/2 time between summer solstice and autumn equinox. Called Lammas... it's the time of the `first harvest'; the promise of abundance... It's also the day when we connect with the sabian symbol' a child on a swing in a huge oak tree.' A child delights in `swinging'; the soothing rhythm of play. Get thee to a swing...or! at least a rocking chair to soothe & heal... Let's combine these meanings to LIFT our spirits... Do something to connect with the enduring qualities of nature;a walk, a pause to cloud watch, garden. Play. Create! Fry up some `green tomatoes!' Do something with the `grain.' Bake bread! Eat Bread! ( consider Brian's Best Gluten free of course!) Remind yourself that EVERYTHING that falls rises again.... Even this downright scary, dreary, challenging virus crisis.... No matter what; the cycles move forward. Feast of Lammas! In early Ireland, it was a bad idea to harvest your grain any time before Lammas -- it meant that the previous year's harvest had run out early, and that was a serious failing in agricultural communities. However, on August 1, the first sheaves of grain were cut by the farmer, and by nightfall his wife had made the first loaves of bread of the season. The word Lammas derives from the Old English phrase hlaf-maesse, which translates to loaf mass. In early Christian times, the first loaves of the season were blessed by the Church. excerpt: https://alivemagdolene.livejournal.com/314967.html Wishing you all the hope of a bountiful harvest; as the tides rise and fall.
