Went from installing a slider to reframing half the side of this house. No flashing around windows, dry rot and carpenter ants. Not much left holding that outside wall up. If you have carpenter ants don’t just get a company to spray. The ants are there for a reason there’s water getting in to your house. I’ve seen it a lot. Glad I’m working inside today

Over the last year and a half Moriarty Construction was contracted out by RPI and the Darren Fresh Water institute who are also working with IBM. We build the decks and erect the Sheds that act as shelters for testing stations all around Lake George to monitor the water flowing in to the Lake. There are 11 stations, we were involved with the last 7 and have 1 left to complete this summer. Small job on our part but is nice to be apart of something that means a lot to me whi...ch is Lake George if you’re interested in what exactly the program entails I asked one of the main scientists involved to write a brief summary. Here’s what the stream stations look like when fully instrumented. All the stations are connected to the lab via cellular phone links. The pump system brings in water to the shelter where probes test for temperature, dissolved minerals, sediment, organic matter and other components. There is also an automated water sampler, the big gray can on the front left that pumps water samples into bottles stored in its’ base. These water samples are brought back to the lab and tested for fertilizers, and other things we can’t do with a probe. There are flow recorders in the brook that measure the amount of water passing by the station. All of this data is compiled by a data recorder in the shelter (one of the black boxes) and transmitted back to the RPI and IBM labs. By knowing the volume of water and its’ chemical signature, we can calculate the effect of each of the major streams on the water quality of Lake George. See more
