This has been a strange and difficult year. The pandemic continues to disrupt our lives and keep many of us apart from those we love the most. That’s especially tough now, during a season traditionally marked by the gathering of family and friends in celebration and gratitude. But even in the most difficult of times, we can still find opportunities to be grateful. And I, this year more than any other, am thankful for the opportunity to support you. I’m grateful and honored th...at you’ve chosen us to help see you through this time of uncertainty. We’re going to get through this together. As a bank for communities, we know that’s what being part of a community is all about. On behalf of my more than 17,000 M&T Bank and Wilmington Trust colleagues, I wish you and yours a safe and happy holiday season. René Jones, CEO and Chairman #ShowYourGratitude #CommunityBank

Nearly every facet of daily life has been changed by the pandemic and higher education is no exception. Our colleague at Wilmington Trust, Family Legacy Advisor Jerry Inglet, spoke to U.S. News and World Report about how #Covid19 has changed how we think about financing a college education and new considerations for families and students. #plansmart #communitybank

In response to the unprecedented circumstances facing businesses of Camden, NJ, we worked with Parkside Business & Community In Partnership to grant a total of $25,000 in relief funding to small businesses in the Haddon Avenue corridor. As a community bank, M&T is acutely aware of the impact the pandemic has had on small businesses and commercial districts like Haddon Avenue, said M&T Bank Regional President for Philadelphia and Southern New Jersey Bernie Shields. Kids today were born into a digital age and are much more comfortable in front of a computer screen or other device than previous generations. But how much do they really know about how to be #BeCyberSmart? Now is a great time for a family discussion about cybersecurity. #communitybank

To close out National Disability Employment Awareness Month, check out this profile on our employee, Amy Graff. Amy Graff, Scrum Master in Credit Risk Oversight, has an uncanny ability to see the positive in most any situation. She’s smart, determined and has high-energy. She also has a rare form of muscular dystrophy (MD). At the age of 40, Amy was diagnosed with the genetic disorder that affects her from the knees and elbows down, causes muscle atrophy, and sensitivity iss...ues. Six years after her diagnosis, Amy was in a serious car accident that further exacerbated her MD. As a result, Amy wears custom-made braces on her ankles for stability and everyday things like buttoning pants or putting on jewelry can be a struggle. She jokes with a smile that as the muscle atrophy affects her foot movement, she's not the typical woman when it comes to buying shoes she hates it! "I don't let my disability define me. I am aware of it, I do recognize my restrictions, but I'd never let my situation define me," she says. Amy is on the steering committee of M&T’s Disability Advocacy Network (DAN) Resource group and works to ensure that our decisions are inclusive across the bank. DAN is a forum for people who self-identify as disabled, are taking care of children with disabilities, or are caregivers for adults with disabilities. We hold a quarterly Share a Story event, now virtual, to offer support and a safe space for employees to talk about their experiences. Some have even shared their diagnosis with others for the first time. Prior to the pandemic, Amy had a workplace accommodation that allowed her to work from home three days a week. "My manager, Kim has been wonderful. When planning seating at our new office space at Seneca One, she reached out to ask, ‘what will help you and what will hinder you and how can I help,’ so we talked about things like where my desk would be. Of her experience at the bank, Amy says that she's able to bring her authentic self to M&T. Leveraging self-identification has been critical to my success. My manager knows, and I'm very open and communicative about my issues and concerns. #communitybank #NDEAM2020 #inclusion

Whether you are currently retired, nearing retirement, or still have many more years to save, you are likely concerned about your retirement savings. The Coronavirus Aid, Relief, Economic and Security (CARES) Act created some temporary withdrawal changes for certain retirement plans, designed to help eligible individuals access funds without incurring excessive penalties and taxes. #plansmart
