Boots celebrates Kaya, who despite all that has happened this year, still joined Boots; showed up to every single modified rehearsal and participated in our Boots Zoom Meetings. But here is why we celebrate her most. She did not pass screening for the next presentation, but that did not stop her from showing up to every rehearsal and working hard ANYWAY!!!! This is the most important quality trait in life.... It is not what happens to us...or what does not happen for us that matters most...it is how we respond that is most important. And THAT is the story of 2020!!!!!!!

Grace and Peace fam; I feel the overwhelming need to share this. Over the past 2 weeks, I have been collecting progress reports from my Boots Step Team. As I... reviewed them, most of the team are doing awesome, while just a few had grades that slipped. In meeting with a few of my team members yesterday, I asked them how this semester was for them. I also asked them the following questions: What was challenging about this semester? How did they feel about their grades? Was it a fair assessment (given the times that we are in)? Could they have done better.? Did they and are they doing their personal best? And as I handed them the floor, they responded and shared honestly. Some are experiencing challenges learning from home (lack of resources or just challenged in the area of focus). Some shared that they felt okay. Some shared that they are thriving learning from home and some say they want this semester just to be over. After listening...I thanked them for sharing and I told them that I was proud of every single one of them because when Covid19 invaded our way of life...our children...your children...still moved forward despite their own fears, and anguish and stress and depression and worries and frustrations. Our children...your children...still had to navigate through raging hormones and being trapped in their own homes...many without an outlet. Our children...your children...still managed to do life and have even matured...maybe faster...than any previous generation because...well there was no other alternative given all that has taken place in 2020 from a pandemic, to protests, to politics. I thanked our children...your children...for working hard along side their families to stay safe...to stay away from the strong temptations of secret crowded parties and large gatherings. It is difficult for our youth (as it is difficult for us all). So while I still encouraged our children...your children...to do their very best (because we are still fighting against a racial system as people of color)...I let them know...no matter the grades they received...that I am still proud of them and I believe in them. And that goes for all of our children...your children...whether early childhood, middle school, high school and college. I just want to say we are proud of you and we believe in you!!! In His Love, Min Reggie

So uuuuummmmmm.the song ‘Life’, by Damita Hadden, is staple step routine of The Nubian Gents, Feminine Fire and Boots for well over 19 years. Min Lamont O’Neil and I have taught it to almost every generation of our respective teams for almost 2 decades and it still remains a popular routine. I also had the opportunity to teach ‘Life’ in Europeand when Mo and I visited back in 2014, the newest generation of steppers in a town called Houten (located in the Netherlands) pres...ented it to us. And as they were stepping, I could not help to hear the beautiful angelic voice singing the lead as they stepped. I had to ask her to just sing and well.you'll hear it for yourself... After they were done with their presentation, the young lady, who was about 17 or 18, came up to me and told me that she was very young when I came for one of my summer visits (I traveled back and forth to Holland between 2001 and 2007). She remembered the steps I taught as well as the principles I shared. What an amazing opportunity to be used by God to pour into others and to see other generations benefit.
