Covid-19 updates have proved inaccessible to communities of non-native English speakers in New York. Direct and equitable outreach to immigrant New Yorkers is imperative in overcoming the current climate of distrust and fear. The Tibetan Community and the Nurses Association of of New York and New Jersey have set up this valuable resource. Please reach out to them if you are in need of information or are in distress.

The pandemic is no great leveller, instead it only exacerbates the fault lines of our unequal society. Immigrant and low-income communities are disproportionately impacted by Covid-19. At the same time, members of these communities continue to put their bodies on the line as frontline workers. The borough of Queens, home to the largest Tibetan diaspora outside of Asia, is now the epicentre of the crisis. Over 400 Tibetans are employed as healthcare workers in New York and New... Jersey. They and other essential workers deserve PPE (Personal Protective Equipment), paid sick leave, access to a hardship fund and more! As the government commits trillions to bail out corporations, community organisers have been quick to heed the call of the undervalued, underpaid and at-risk. Please support this invaluable fundraiser organised by the Tibetan Nurses Association of New York & New Jersey. https://www.gofundme.com/f/ry99tg-a-cause-i-care-about-need

Jinpa: A New Film by Pema Tseden February 21 - 27, 2020 Asia Society 725 Park Ave.... On an isolated road in the barren Kekexili Plateau of Tibet, a truck driver chances upon a young hitchhiker on a quest for revenge. They share a name, and perhaps, a dream. Little does the driver realize that their brief encounter has inexorably intertwined their destinies. Mixing filmmaker Pema Tseden’s signature naturalism with dreamy, sepia-soaked flashbacks, Jinpa challenges audiences to question our own understanding of spirituality, morality, and, ultimately, reality.
