Muay Sabai Camp 07.01.2021

This week's plug is for our fight team member, trusty gym admin, and resident smack-talker Toby! When he's not welcoming people, keeping the books, wrapping hands, or relentlessly kneeing, he's honing his craft as a vocalist and actor. During the lockdown, he's begun teaching vocal lessons online, which several of our members (and Kru Nat) have already taken advantage of. You'll appreciate his talent, as well as his tireless positivity. If you're interested in getting your tr...a la la las together, you can reach him through our gym contact email. He’ll get it! Here's Toby in his own words: "Toby Otorubio has a unique voice that is suited for many styles of singing. From R&B and pop, to musical theater and opera, he can do it all. Toby most recently attended the prestigious Mannes School of Music from 2017 to 2019 to pursue a Master of Music in Opera Performance under the instruction of Arthur Levy, who has taught names such as Meryl Streep and Audra McDonald. Toby has performed in musicals including, Into the Woods, The Most Happy Fella, and Street Scene. He has also appeared in operas by Puccini and Tchaikovsky including La Bohème, Gianni Schicchi and Eugene Onegin. Houston, Texas raised, Toby currently lives in NYC pursing a career in musical theater and opera. He's also known to dabble a bit in the art of Muay Thai."

We hope everyone has enjoyed this latest group of 7 24-hour cycles, formerly known (pre-quarantine) as "days" and "weeks." We'll end with our plug of gym OG Earl Maneein, a remarkable musician and educator. He's stylistically diverse, technically scary, and super musical. He maintains a home recording studio and is available for all types of recording work, and he's open to teach students of all levels online.... You can reach him @dethviolin , through his website (earlmaneeinmusic.com), and check his excellent project, seven)suns (sevensunsmusic.com). Photo by @elleperex Here's Earl in his own words: "Earl Maneein (b. 1976), an "kick ass artist who pushes the creative boundaries, (Robert Trujillo, Metallica) is a violinist, violist, composer, and teacher whose artistic output stands at the unlikely crossroads of Western Classical music, Heavy Metal, and Hardcore Punk. He is the founder of and main composer for the string quartet SEVEN)SUNS, a group that reflects this nexus of musical styles. Earl received a Master of Music Degree from the Mannes College of Music, where he studied with Daniel Phillips of the Orion String Quartet. Earl's unusual artistic voice is the result of his history playing and participating in the metal/hardcore scene, forming his first punk band at 14 and sometimes showing up to violin lessons with a black eye and a grin on his face. Earl has received commissions and performances from The Carnegie Hall Corporation, soloist Rachel Barton Pine, the Phoenix Symphony, hardcore band The Dillinger Escape Plan, and The Dance Theater of Harlem, among others. As a freelance violinist and violist, Earl is comfortable and skilled in diverse styles including Western European Classical, Bluegrass, Jazz, Blues, and Rock. He tours as a featured player of the Los Angeles based Vitamin String Quartet and has recorded and played with Alicia Keys, Florence + The Machine, Jay-Z, Rhianna, The Roots, and Sean Lennon, among others. In addition, Earl has done countless commercial recording work, including music for the Nickelodeon show Team Umizoomi, and "Rising Sun", the theme song for the WWE wrestler Shinsuke Nakamura."

Hey, it's the weekend (or is it??) In keeping with our theme of promoting the Muay Sabai family's talents, this week we're featuring Abby Walworth's @wally_co beautiful works of mud, rope, and flowers. In addition to what you'll find on her Etsy shop (etsy.com/shop/wallycowallyco), she is also available for individual custom pieces and commissioned larger runs (full disclosure: the author owns two hanging planters and custom napkin rings). Support the community and your home decor with a little retail therapy!
