And so it begins again! I didn’t have time to take a picture of the finished product. We seeded radishes, raab, arugula, turnips and spinach. We transplanted kale, lettuce, broccoli and cabbage. Next week raddichio and bok choi goes in. So far so good. Dave’s really become an amazing mechanic.
10 years ago Dave and I planted willows with the plan to harvest pussy willows in spring. We have never got the timing right UNTIL this week. Dave harvested a bunch. I’m still not recovered from my leg injury so you’ll be seeing him again tomorrow. He’s doing nearly EVERYTHING on the farm plus teaching English at a community college. Mushrooms are also back at the market. Mostly oysters with some shiitakes. It’s the last of the butternut and koginut squash.
We’re coming to market tomorrow. I’m adding a picture of the next weeks forecast to better explain why I’m not growing greens right now. I don’t want to heat a greenhouse with propane and wood when it’s single digits for sprouts. Not. Gonna. Do. It. But we still have loads of winter squash and roots and spuds:) Last picture is to show you there’s nothing in the greenhouse- but I sanitized all the trays we’ll start vegetables in. Edit- we still will run out of eggs early. We’ve contemplated putting a max per household- but instead we’re hoping people don’t take more than 3 dozen so others might enjoy as well
During the winter we sprout organic grains for the chickens. They love it. With the snow covering everything green this is a nice supplement. They get 12-15 lbs few times a week.
While the rest of the country is nervous af about the election, we’re also nervous about the cold snap heading to us Friday night. And the rain and snow Thursday and Friday. Deciding what to harvest (radishes and fennel) vs cover (sooo much)vs let it go (Dill, cilantro and some lettuce) I’ve tried early voting twice and the line was too long for me. Not giving up.
