The Glynwood Bench was originally inspired by a French photograph of what appeared to be the top of an entry gate to a large field. Based on that image a rectangular seat was added to create the Bench you see today. . This sturdy bench, with members up to 3 thick in places, is graphically appealing from both the front and back. The Mawson Bench is based on an antique chair found in Washington, Connecticut. The vertical slats of the backrest, typical of Gustavian design, meet the curved seat slats positioned to create a matchbook effect for visual interest. The slight curve of the back rail slopes downward to the arm softening the shape to give the feel of a curved bench while maintaining a straight profile. The Gunn Bench is an example of the evolution of a product; a dining chair became a lounge chair, which then became a bench at the request of a client. A document in the company’s archives dates the original design to 1834, when the invention of hollow iron tubes led to advancements in garden furniture design. . Like the chair, the seat is flat and is comprised of a series of metal tubes.
