We just recently came across this poem by Paul Laurence Dunbar (pictured below) who was born in 1872 and was one of the first African American poets to gain national recognition. #May #poetry A Golden Day I found you and I lost you, ... All on a gleaming day. The day was filled with sunshine, And the land was full of May. A golden bird was singing Its melody divine, I found you and I loved you, And all the world was mine. I found you and I lost you, All on a golden day, But when I dream of you, dear, It is always brimming May. See more
That summer feeling - Knoxville, Tennessee by Nikki Giovanni I always like summer... best you can eat fresh corn from daddy's garden and okra and greens and cabbage and lots of barbecue and buttermilk and homemade ice-cream at the church picnic and listen to gospel music outside at the church homecoming and go to the mountains with your grandmother and go barefooted and be warm all the time not only when you go to bed and sleep See more
