WOMAN CRUSH WEDNESDAY: @annagalluzzi https://museemagazine.com//woman-crush-wednesday-anna-gall Q: There is an emphasis on objects of the domestic sphere in this series (needlework, houseplants, pets, stuffed toys, etc.). Is this a reflection of the way you felt trapped in your relationship?... A: Although I felt "trapped" in the relationship, I think that the domestic aspects really stem from my attempt to find comfort in my everyday life that wasn't dependent on the relationship. Things like plants and my dogs bring me such joy and I think I just wanted to include some "good" in a situation that was so "bad." - #musee #museemagazine #photo #photomagazine #photography #photographymagazine #photozine #creatives #fineartphotography #annagalluzzi #annagalluzziart

EXHIBITION REVIEW: PEGGY PREHEIM Presented by the Tanya Bonakdar Gallery as an online exhibition, Preheim debuts two films in addition to her notably intricate works on paper. Drawing from her own life along with historical and found sources, Preheim creates intimate narratives that evoke mystery and demand attention. Spheres, one of Preheim’s featured films, harmonizes process with inspiration. The film documents Preheim’s environmental influences through shaky and distorte...d perspectives thus providing an insight to her practice of looking. TRIGGERED: ALLISON PLASS Amid thoughts of midlife and masculinity, I looked at my husband and saw the heroic figure of Odysseus, his long journey on the sea, and the lessons of vulnerability at the end. I felt my husband’s intense longing in that moment as he sat in the kayak, and asked him to stay put for some pictures. Odysseus Allison Plass... FILM REVIEW: JOY-FINDING HAPPINESS IN TROUBLED TIMES (2021) DIR. LOUIS PSIHOYOS Full Review: https://museemagazine.com//film-review-mission-joy-finding The boldness of this title is not an overstatement. Joy is the subject and this is a mission. It is not so much taught, as revealed by example in the lives of the 14th Dalai Lama of Tibet and South African Archbishop Desmond Tutu, two of our most influential, controversial and beloved contemporary spiritual leaders who happ...en to have a phenomenally close friendship. The differences in background and their paths to the present could hardly be more disparate and the story could hardly be more compelling. FROM OUR ARCHIVES: MARVIN HEIFERMAN Full Feature: https://museemagazine.com//from-our-archives-marvin-heifer This interview was featured in our 24th Issue: Identity... In the past, I’ve always looked at how photography works in culture and for others. Now, all of a sudden, I’m using photography because I have to in order to make sense of myself, for myself. It didn’t and still doesn’t feel like a choice. Making pictures was the only way I was going to be able to face up to and make peace with my own vulnerability. I was no longer the professional saying, "This is how photographs work." I was me, Marvin, saying "I don't know what the fuck is going on, but making pictures is the only thing that allows me to capture and take a step back from my experience, to literally see and get some perspective on what I was going through. Art Evolving Art auctions this year looked like they never have before, forced to get creative with technology due to the global pandemic. Utilizing virtually accessible videos, catalogues, and bidding formats, the Phillips online photography auction last week was still able to sell images from nostalgic pieces like this one by Lillian Bassman from 1949 to more contemporary works. It had been months, I think. It’s impossible to tell for sure. In my corner of the velvet-black abyss, time bent and creaked around me, eluding me, sifting through my calloused, bony fingers when I reached out to grab it. But surely it had been months before they finally found me. Read more Flash Fiction at Museemagazine.com - Words by Summer Myatt ... 2020 has been a year of many life changing events, one catastrophe after another; it has reminded us all that we have made much progress, but in terms of certain issues such as racism, the past and the present have been over overlapping and are still playing in a sad loop. These events have served as an influence on Wardell Milan’s latest body of work. His series Death, Wine, Revolt explores themes of over-indulgence, destruction, and revolution... Milan’s ongoing series, D...eath, Wine, Revolt will be available for viewing at the Fraenkel Gallery from October 29-December 22. Goshiwons (less than 54 square feet) consist of a bed, a closet, a desk, and shared spaces such as the kitchen and the bathroom, while goshitels are slightly more spacious, yet more bare. The price range to rent a goshiwon is between $200 to $500 (depending on whether you’d like a window in your quarter or a bathroom to yourself). To add, some goshiwons are divided by sex.
