How do you stand out in a competitive college application process? For some, we’ve seen in the news this week that the answer is cheating, bribing, and even photoshopping your child’s head on to athlete’s bodies. ... A better question is, How do you stand out in a way that makes you and your family proud? #HireCause#highschoolstudents #careerdevelopment #communityimpact #collegeapplications

"Who luck" This is a term that refers to the luck of meeting certain people in your life, a term coined by author Jim Collins. It points to the chance encounters or pivotal moments in our lives that rely on the luck of meeting other people. There is an expression, the harder you work, the luckier you get. Well, we also believe that the more career exposure students receive, the luckier they get. You never know which conversation with a professional beyond the walls of the classroom will change the trajectory of their lives.

In a famous study by Ellen Langer and Judith Rodin, there are two floors in a specific nursing home. One floor received the perks of plants in their rooms and a movie screening every week, but had no choice over the matter. The other floor’s residents chose the plants themselves, took responsibility for watching them, and decided which night was movie night. Over a year later, the residents on the floor with increased control were happier, more active, and more alert (a...s rated by nurses and residents) than those on the floor where decisions were made for them. The empowered floor also had better health and half as many deaths. While we are talking about the residents in a nursing home, it’s not a far stretch to think of the applications for students in a classroom, or people you want to lead. #leadership #empower #highschoolstudents

The quadricep stretch. It’s a tough one to keep your balance. If you’ve ever practiced yoga or stretched before playing a sport, you’ve probably had to do it. Pull one leg back, stand on the other leg, and try to stay steady. The interesting thing is that it can be even harder to keep your balance when others are in front of you because the tendency is to watch them, and if they lose their balance, you’ll often lose yours. ... That’s why the instructor or coach will typically tell you to focus on something in your vision that is not moving, and the weird thing is that this little trick works. The more still the object of your focus, the steadier you become. When circumstances may be chaotic around us, it’s worth thinking about the quadricep stretch.
