The western half of Long Island is at risk for severe weather late today and tonight. We know the drill around here. Thunderstorms approach and fall apart as they move east thanks to the cold ocean. Meteorologist Joe Cioffi Winter Weather Advisory today for Northeast Pennsylvania, Parts of Northern New Jersey, the Catskills, the Hudson Valley, and Connecticut north of I-95 and Rhode Island. Winter Storm Warnings for most of Massachusetts. Snow forecast maps are up. After this is done the next one for Thursday passes south of NYC and the risks will be for Central and South Jersey, southward into the Northern Mid Atlantic states. Then there is a storm system for the weekend. Other than that, there isn't much going on

Meteorologist Joe Cioffi A day to breathe in between snow systems as the next one arrives Tuesday. The risk for a few inches lies mainly north of Route 78 in NJ and near or just north of NYC. Another weather system, this one stronger and further south, is a risk for Wednesday night into Thursday. There is even the risk of a wave for Friday though for now it might be a bit of a long shot. Snow forecast maps are up and updated for Tuesday's chance of accumulating snow.

Meteorologist Joe Cioffi Winter Storm Warning & Winter Weather Advisories are up. This is a 6 to 8 hour event from start to finish. I expect snow amounts to finish on the lower end of estimates given the time constraints and the borderline temperatures. Next week we have what appears to be what I call a bowling alley pattern and we are the 10 pin with system after system moving into the Northeast.

Meteorologist Joe Cioffi Our cold dry weather continues today and through the weekend as a storm passes south and brings snow to the Carolina and North Georgia mountains. You can thank the very strong block in the North Atlantic. That block however could relax enough to allow another storm early next week to move further north. We will take a look at this as well as today through the weekend.

Meteorologist Joe Cioffi Quiet chilly weather continues right through the weekend with just minor temperature changes. A storm passes to our south Friday into Saturday with no issues here other than high clouds. Next week brings a big pattern realignment across North America and that could create some volatility which will include storm chances and a much colder winter pattern taking hold long range.

Meteorologist Joe Cioffi The first full week of 2020 and it appears to be a quiet one at first glance but there is actually a lot going on around us that will play a role in the weather short and long range. Blocking persists and in fact will be strengthening this week. This will keep us in a dry place at least through Thursday. It will also determine the fate of the next two storms heading across the Gulf States.

Winter Weather Advisory in effect inland for the potential for a coating to a couple of inches. This system has limited if any upside potential. Along the coast some mixing could occur with two rounds of precipitation. Weather for the week ahead looks dry but the pattern does remain busy in the longer range.
