We are less than a year away from one of the most critical tenets of our democracy the Census. The NAACP is committed to ensuring the 2020 Census is a fair census, and we’re mobilizing our units across the country to promote the full participation of the Black community. Although the United States Constitution requires that the nation’s population is counted every ten years to ensure equal representation for all communities, African Americans and other communities of color ...have historically been subjected to malicious undercounts, thereby reducing the resources the federal government allocates to our communities. We can’t let this happen next year. Count Me In. Along with taking legal action to ensure our government is fully prepared for the census, we’ve created tools and resources needed to combat the deliberate tactics that will make a fair and accurate census count difficult. There is too much at stake for the Black community to face an undercount next year, so we’re counting on you to stay informed about all things 2020 Census. Sign up now to receive updates from our civic engagement team regarding the census. In solidarity, Sheila E. Isong National Political Director NAACP http://naacp.org/fair-census/

NAACP Weekly Update NAACP: Statements by Derrick Johnson, President and CEO of the NAACP, on Supreme Court’s Democracy Rulings: The Court’s rulings today upend our democratic principles by allowing party politics to determine the outcomes of our elections. Extreme partisan gerrymandering has infected our electoral process for far too long.
