As we enter #PrideMonth, we feel it is imperative to issue a statement supporting transgender and nonbinary youth. Multiple states are attempting to pass legislation criminalizing gender affirming medical care for transgender youth and trying to exclude transgender youth from participating in sports. The Trevor Project’s 2021 National Survey on LGBTQ Youth Mental Health found that more than half of transgender and nonbinary youth seriously considered suicide in the past year.... Being affirmed reduces the rate of suicidal ideation by as much as 50%. NAC stands with and supports the transgender community.
