<3 10 August 2020: An elderly woman was attacked and set on fire by two strangers last month in Bensonhurst, Brooklyn. Thus far, NYPD is still in midst of investigations and the incident is still not categorized as a "hate crime." This morning, NYC Councilmember Mark Treyger held a press conference to inform fellow NYC/NYS officials, press and advocates of the incident; as well as question the reason why associated investigations are taking such a long time to complete. Atten...ding CM Treyger's press conference: NYS Assemblymember William Colton, NYS Senator Andrew Gounardes, NYS District Leader Nancy Tong, Don Lee of Homecrest Community Services, Dr Tim Law, CASS and other advocates. Photos: Bonita Lei. As reported by AMNY . com: // The 89-year-old victim was approached by two unknown men on 77th Street and 16th Avenue shortly after she left her Bensonhurst home on the evening of July 14, authorities said. One assailant slapped her in the face, and moments later, her shirt was lit on fire by a match or a lighter, police said. The victim raised her hair and rubbed her back on a nearby wall to put out the flames, she told ABC7, preventing her from suffering serious injuries. Police have made no arrests and an investigation remains ongoing, a police spokesman said. The incident had not been deemed a hate crime as of Aug. 4. //

<3 A press conference was held on March 5th, 2020 at Golden Imperial Palace Restaurant to denounce racism toward Asian Americans due to outbreak of COVID-19. Recent xenophobic and racist messages were spread throughout social media causing irrational fears against Asian owned businesses. District Leader Nancy Tong, City Councilmember Mark Treyger, Assemblyman William Colton, Bro...oklyn Borough President Eric Adams, Former State Senator Jessie Hamilton, representatives from Congressman Max Rose and Assemblywoman Nicole Malliotakis, BRACE President John Chan, Wai Wah Chin of The Chinese American Citizens Alliance of New York (CACAGNY), Kenneth Chiu, candidate for New York Assembly, Vito LaBella, President of PTA for Christa McAuliffe school along with multiple business owners and community leaders among the Asian Community were among the presenters.
