Good evening Members! If you are being told that your child is "bright" or at academic level, but you know that they are still struggling or not reaching their true potential, please know that they can still be eligible for accommodations and/or services. The Americans with Disabilities act defines a disability as a physical or mental impairment that substantially limits one or more major life activities and that if there is a record of that impairment, then they are eligible... for protections under the ADA law. Yes. Special education is not solely academic. Dear Friends & Neighbors, Join us for the 6th Annual Dyslexia Awareness Day on Thursday, May 6th, 2021! Every year, Ww host #DyslexiaAwarenessDay in Albany th...is year, virtually where people from the affected community come together to help pass necessary legislation to improve the lives of those affected. This event will focus on promoting a better understanding of dyslexia and learning-related disabilities and building support for funding and legislative solutions, like ensuring that all required literacy classes for teachers include the structured multisensory approach (A2217/S1376 ); requiring mandatory early screening for dyslexia for all children (A2283/S01293); and implementing dyslexia screening and a reading level assessment for certain incarcerated individuals (A2062/S00307).
