Dementia caregiving exacts a steep toll not only on families but on businesses as well. Absenteeism, productivity losses and replacement costs all impact the workplace as employees struggle to balance providing care for a loved one who has Alzheimer’s disease with their obligations on the job. The Alzheimer's Association WNY Chapter can bring free education programs to your workplace to mitigate that toll and they can be scheduled to fit your employees lunch or work schedules as well.

Our latest SAFETY HERO submitted by NIA member, Joe Claus: "This is a pic of my son, Jonathan Claus, working. He is testing employees for Covid before they step into the hospital (UB MD Internal Medicine). Keeping everyone inside safe and the employees safe outside. This was taken March 2020 when the temperature was 34/24. He always puts the safety of his coworkers and the hospitalized first. Thank you for being true to your job, son!" THANK YOU for all that you do, Jonathan to keep everyone SAFE!

THANK YOU Brenda from Bee Newspapers for your sharing your BRAVE LIFE LESSON! In the fall of 2011 I decided to join a gym and after working out a few times, I noticed a lump on my left breast. I thought I had pulled a muscle or maybe it was a cyst. I already had a physical scheduled in a few weeks and the doctor said it was probably nothing, but sent me down the hall for a mammogram. The picture showed a mass and they arranged for a biopsy a few days later. That was on D...ecember 13th. A few days before Christmas, the doctor called to tell me that I had a fast growing malignant tumor and would need to find a cancer doctor. Needless to say, the holidays were a blur and after meeting with 2 different specialists, I had a lumpectomy, then chemotherapy and radiation. The whole process took about 6 months, but at the end I was pronounced Cancer free! October is Breast Cancer Awareness month and I am a firm believer in mammograms. I had one in July of 2011 and there was no trace of anything to come. Please get a mammogram; it can save your life! In September of 2012 my sister organized a team to compete in the Dirty Girl Breast Cancer Mud Run Fundraiser and I thought I would be cheering from the sidelines. Thankfully, I was able to walk or crawl the entire 5k! I am standing on the far left. Because of my faith in the Lord it never occurred to me that I would not be a survivor. If you know someone that has been affected by breast cancer that would like to share their LIFE LESSON, please click on the link to make your submission. https://networkinaging.org/life-lessons-nomination/
