Last year on my birthday, March 11, 2020, the World Health Organization declared COVID-19 a pandemic and the United States shut down. I had launched a birthday fundraiser for the health center before realizing what would take place in the weeks and months ahead. Many of you gave generously and your gifts allowed us to continue serving the homeless through the most difficult of times - we never closed despite Elmhurst, NY being declared the Epicenter of COVID-19. https://www.n...ytimes.com/.../nyr.../coronavirus-new-york.html Kristin Moltz and John Peck kept things going as older volunteers paused and younger volunteers with vulnerable family members took appropriate precautions. After a brief pause, our Women's Health Program, that serves survivors of sex trafficking and domestic violence, reopened. The Knights of Columbus heard of the work we were doing and last fall donated the funds for us to acquire a ultrasound machine significantly expanding our services to expecting mothers. So many have suffered loss this year. Many are struggling financially. I didn't want to do a Birthday Fundraiser after so many have given and knowing that some are still struggling. But I also know the needs of those we serve and want to give those of you who are blessed the opportunity to share in this wonderful ministry to those less fortunate. I need NOTHING for my birthday. Help me help others and give as you are able. No pressure to participate - and thank you to those who give faithfully already. Since some have asked - this year I am 55. Grateful for my wife and daughter and the opportunity to serve.

Here at New Life Community Health Center, we love to celebrate our patients. Like many of the people at #NLCHC, our patient and friend Samantha has overcome so many obstacles in her life. Given the current landscape of Covid vaccination supply, and distribution plans for New York City, NLCHC will not be offering vaccinations at this time. As additional vaccines are made available, we will continue to revisit if it may be a good fit for NLCHC to offer vaccinations in the future. 2020 has been a year of loss and readjustment, and often it can be hard to find bright spots in the darkness. Then something happens that reminds us miracles do happen. We have been praying for an ultrasound machine since New Life Community Health Center opened our drop-in clinic services in 2005. And this year our prayers have been answered!... Through a generous grant from the Knights of Columbus local chapter Father John J Murray Council 14666 at American Martyrs and the Knights of Columbus Supreme Council - WE HAVE A BRAND-NEW ULTRASOUND MACHINE! There are so many people to thank for their awesome efforts on behalf of #NLCHC! First, Michael Shoule and Joseph Timpa, for spearheading the fundraising that started in March 2019. James Ambrey, the former Grand Knight and his predecessor Sal Tartaglione (pictured below). Also, Ed Pearce (Deputy Grand Knight) and Fernando Barreira (Life Director). They have all been supportive of our clinic and pledged to continue that support in the future! And finally, our partners at Boro Pregnancy Counseling Center, provided us with fantastic counselors and support for the women we serve. We could not have done this without them. We want to give a special shoutout to Margaret Koch (the amazing mom of our #NLCDC director Tiffany Koch)!! Margaret knit these wonderful warm winter headbands to give out to the patients here. As she knit them she said a prayer for the patient who would receive her gift (take a look at pic 2 for one of the prayers she said while knitting). We are so thankful that people have supported our mission here at #NLCHC both financially and spiritually! #christmastime #weloveourpatients
