The aftermath of 9/11 provided a rare opportunity to use my lawyering skills as well as my musical craft to try to make sense out of a senseless tragedy. As a ...lawyer, I was proud to represent a family, pro bono, at a hearing before the Victims Compensation Fund--proving the critics wrong. By banding together as Trial Lawyers Care --a group of trial lawyers avoided drawn--out litigation that might have wreaked economic havoc and prolonged the suffering to the surviving families--agreed to provide their services without taking a fee (pro bono). Virtually noone is unfamiliar with at least a dozen anti-trial lawyers jokes, but how many know of Trial Lawyers Care?--a group which to this day has -- for political reasons-- received little or no public recognition for their efforts without which the Victim's Compensation Fund would never have seen the light of day. (See below). And as a musician I also wrote a 9/11 remembrance tune, "Standing Tall, see soundcloud link below, that premiered at Town Hall, Flushing, Queens. Proving the Critics Wrong More than 3,500 families requested TLC assistance. Of those, about half1,739 claimants from 35 states and 11 countrieswere eligible to file claims with the fund. They received more than $350 million in free legal services provided by over 1,100 TLC attorneys from every state, three Canadian provinces, Australia, England and Mexico. These lawyers proved the critics wrong: the final total for aid to victims and survivor families was expected to exceed $2 billion. Awards to TLC clients have averaged more than $2.1 million per claim, compared with the average for non-TLC cases of about $1.8 million. TLC clients also gained from not having to pay fees or costs, which averaged about $200,000 per case. Overall, TLC clients fared betterby about $500,000than fund claimants who chose for-fee lawyers. The Victim Compensation Fund was a great success: In the end, the families of 98 percent of all those killed on 9/11, as well as hundreds of injury victims, filed claims with the fund.

Details of a $20 Million settlement that Barry Strutt and John Keegan secured for a 19-year-old Westchester County injury victim have been published by Zarin's Jury Verdict Review and Analysis (JVRA). https://www.keegan-law.com//20-million-settlement-in-westc
O Canada (Music)! It is about time we got a decision that understands and enforces intellectual property rights AND the rights of the creator! Let's hope this is a new beginning! But I doubt that we can get five on SCOTUS to see the light!
Wow. I wish he would run-- I'd back him! He's tough as nails and sweats integrity from every pore. A lawyer's lawyer to boot . . . .
