We have this awesome tradition of celebration parades for sports sectional wins...tonight we celebrated Jaston Brooks winning sectionals by being one of the two Rochester Broadway Theatre League representatives at The Jimmy Awards (the National High School Musical Theatre Awards) this year! So proud to be from a community that celebrates achievements!! Thank you to Mayor Taylor, the Newark Police Department, the Newark Fire Department, the Marbletown Fire Department, the Fairview Fire Department, Drama families and friends (and alum!) for driving in the parade, and everyone who came out to wave and cheer! This is what hometown pride looks like!

Fun fact...Newark HS has participated in the RBTL Stars of Tomorrow program every year since its inception in 1999! We use the program as an opportunity to celebrate being a part of the arts community in Rochester. Any time theatre education receives recognition, it’s a win for all of us.

And the big moment! Actor Derek Klena originated the role in the musical Dogfight - which was the song Jaston sang for his round 3 performance.

Incoming freshman through seniors...please make sure you are connected to Drama Club via this Remind group (it’s the same as previous years if you already are in the group) It’s important to stay connected, especially this year! I use REMIND to send announcements about club meetings and various activities (including auditions etc.) If you are part of a production there will be a separate REMIND for each production.

NHS Drama Club alum Andrew Sloane featured in this fascinating piece about production design in television! Andrew was the Art Director for the most recent season of HBO’s Insecure. He notes that comedy is almost counter to his personal aesthetic, however his past on the NHS stage would prove otherwise! Love the last line...relevant to all art creation You have to approach this as a process and not product.

Artists help artists!!! Update from Mrs. O'Connor! (I asked what the biggest need was and she said probably the high quality masking tape and glue sticks - the regular school supply style glue sticks. She noted that even if you have something hanging around in your junk drawer it would be great! Seriously...this is the perfect excuse to clean out your craft bins and junk drawers!!!) ------------------------------------------------ I would like to send a big THANK YOU out to ...Continue reading
