Yes, it’s that time of year to begin thinking of the upcoming market season! Do you make, bake, grow or sell something you’d like to sell and share your talent with the public? Do you have a little side business that needs more exposure? If so, We are currently looking to add new vendors to our market line up on Thursdays beginning in June. So if you are up to the challenge and would like to join our very lucrative market please pm me (Dee Bodine) directly. Only serious inquiries please.
A Brief History of Farmers’ Markets The origin of farmers’ markets can be traced back to Egypt, over 5,000 years ago. Farmers along the Nile came together to sell their fresh produce. The first known farmers’ market in the USA appeared in Boston in 1634. It would make sense that these markets would have a presence so far back in history before the transportation of goods became accessible when communities were tightly-knit with the farmlands that surrounded them. As cities be...gan to sprawl across the countryside, pushing the farmlands further and further away from the communities they served, transportation and refrigeration opened up opportunities for these farms to lengthen their reach. In the 1700s, grocery stores became the popular source for produce and goods. Farmers markets began to disappear and interests shifted to these stores, abound with choice and convenience. When the USDA undertook its first census of farmers’ markets in 1948, there were just six in all of California. It wasn’t until the 1970s, when America became health-conscious, that farmers’ markets began to make an appearance again. Fresh, healthy, and easy-to-prepare foods became the priority for housewives and their families. Thus, the public began to remember the quaintness of farmers’ markets, and all the access to fresh, healthy foods they provided. Between 1994 and 2008, farmers’ markets really began to hit their stride. The number of markets increased 300% in that time, and continue to grow to this day. Today, there are more than 2,600 farmers’ markets across the country, at which Americans spend $1.1 billion annually.
Tomorrow begins the 12 days of Mac- A Christmas Giveaway! I had a lot of fun putting the items I purchased along with the fabulously donated items to make... a cheesy and real smile worthy basket. How this works is: I will pose a question every day and also have a time picked out for that particular day. Whoever responds at that time or closest to that time will win the family sized macaroni and cheese for that day and the basket of the day. Each basket has the Christmas staple blue premium cookie tins (Thank you Girl Scouts) 4 packets of hot chocolate with marshmallows, a pair of socks,A package or box of candy/ pretzels an adult coloring book, puzzle, sodoku or word search( pen or coloring instrument included)( Thank you Kathy Schuldt)2 candy canes, a Christian pin for your lapel or a positive saying bracelet, mug, a Ms. Linzy’s Mac-n-cheese mask and an ornament:) Nona Kelly donated the pins and a 10 pack of white masks. I bartered a family sized macaroni and cheese for Mark Briggs to print them...Win Win! He did a great job...as usual. Some baskets will have hats and gloves and others a pot holder and towel set. The closet we get to Christmas, I will add more things to the last baskets. I will also have some double giveaway days for the kids! Deana Tuck is also donating some yummy cookies for some of the baskets...including tomorrow’s. Thanks, girl! Last but not least...don’t forget you can also regift this to someone that you would like for me to deliver it to in the Lyons/ Newark area...weather permitting/ Christmas Sweater dress cuteness guaranteed. I hope you all have fun with this and enjoy it as much as I will! This the season for giving...smiles. I had a great season and appreciate all of my customers( new and returning) who continue to support my small business! If this is your first time ever trying it...please let me know what you think! This weekend, the Macaroni and cheese Family sized flavors are OG( Original) Saturday and Sunday will be Gouda( G). The comment times will be from 9-5pm each day! I will try to post the question by 8:30 am each day. I will contact/ message the winner that night. We will arrange the delivery/ pickup details later:) Good luck! Ms. Linzy
