For this week's staff highlight feature, New Cassel Farmers’ Market is shining a spotlighton Isabel Hernandez! Isabel is a Westbury native and a rising sophomore at Westbury High School. This is her second year on the #NCFM team, and she continues to help her co-workers and the community with kindness, organizational skills, and hard work. A coach with whom Isabel worked in the Young Entrepreneurs Training Program, held by The Cedarmore Corporation, called her a "rockstar," ... taking note of her strong work ethic and attention to detail. Isabel has played two roles in #Masks4U, the company that took home 1st Place in the YETP "Shark Tank" business competition. First, she was the Chief Marketing Officer, and now she is the Chief Executive Officer. With Isabel contributing to the #Masks4U team, the business was able to impress the judging panel so much that they were awarded an $800 prize for their work! Additionally, Isabel recently spoke at a virtual roundtable about the significant impact of census completion on the legislative representation communities of color receive at the Black and Brown Youth Census Forum. The forum was held by Erika Hill, CEO of Vision Street Research. Isabel is not only committed to entrepreneurship and serving her community, but she is also a dedicated musician. She has been playing the violin for eight years and is working at #NCFM to save up money to buy her own violin! Today, #NCFM is also celebrating #SeniorCitizenDay, a day for honoring the elders in our communities! To honor the senior citizens in the Westbury/New Cassel area, our staff at #NCFM set up a pop-up market on Saturday, August 1st at Magnolia Garden and the Homestead, both senior citizen living centers. The residents at both locations were thrilled to access fresh, nutritious food right outside their home. This pop-up market also gave our staff the opportunity to inform more ...of the senior citizens in Westbury/New Cassel about the Farmers Market Nutrition Program, a program that gives coupons to eligible residents to buy fresh, nutritious food from farmer’s markets at a steep discount or for free.
