COVID-19 UPDATE FROM NASSAU COUNTY EXECUTIVE LAURA CURRAN Today, Nassau County is reporting 1,273 residents testing positive for COVID-19 of 12,161 tested, putting the County’s daily positivity rate at 10.5% -- the highest we have seen since reopening. Nassau’s hospital systems are reporting 664 COVID-19 related hospitalizations with 66 in ICU and 40 ventilated patients. Nassau County is seeing daily spikes in our COVID-19 hospitalizations and our positivity rates are double... what they were only a month ago. Our numbers continue to move in the wrong direction and the last thing we want is to have our businesses and schools close when we are so close to having large-scale vaccine distribution. We need to all stick to our commonsense guidance to avoid welcoming the new year with new restrictions. I urge residents to celebrate the New Year responsibly so we can enter 2021 with a clear path to our recovery. See more

Nassau County Executive Laura Curran Provides COVID-19 Update NASSAU COUNTY, NY Nassau County's COVID-19 positivity is 6.1%, with 812 out of 13,231 tests reporting positive. Nassau's 7 day average is 5.93%. There are 568 COVID-19 patients hospitalized in Nassau County, with 65 in ICU and 33 intubated. Sad to report that we've lost four residents to COVID-19. The risk of contracting COVID in Nassau County is higher than it has been in months, which calls for increased vigilance from all of us. I know how difficult it is to forgo New Year's traditions, but we only need to keep it small a little bit longer. Together, we keep each other safe, avoid lockdowns, and build momentum for a strong recovery in 2021.

With a national debate going on about racially insensitive mascots and professional sports team names, the Sewanhaka School District was called out during a July 7 Board of Education meeting about Sewanhaka High School’s mascot, which is a Native American Indian. https://newhydeparkillustrated.com//sewanhaka-debates-rac/

The Illustrated News 17.11.2020

A STATEMENT FROM LAURA CURRAN: Nassau County’s daily COVID-19 positivity rate is 5.9%, while Nassau County’s 7 day COVID-19 positivity rate is 5.7%. Nassau County’s hospitals are reporting 562 COVID-19 patients, 71 COVID-19 patients in the ICU, and 39 patients on ventilators, Sadly, 8 Nassau residents have passed away due to COVID-19. I urge residents to continue using common sense this holiday season and wish all those celebrating a safe and Merry Christmas.
