Many of New York’s earlier settlers left their homelands to escape religious persecution and find a home where they would have the freedom to worship as they chose. One such family was the Moshers. Listed on the New York and National Register of Historic Places, their farm in Croghan, NY, has since become a museum dedicated to preserving the religious heritage of the Mennonite Anabaptist community. Read more in the Winter 2018 issue. #freedom #religiousfreedom #farm #museum #heritage #historicplaces #nationalregister
#OTD in 1911, the New York Public Library celebrated its opening day dedication. While Patience and Fortitude, the lions that stand watch from the front steps, were there from the beginning, they weren’t named until the 1930s. Do you know who named them and why their names were chosen? #onthisday #newyorkpubliclibrary #librarylions #newyorkhistory
