Green room with a view #26. Well, okay, it’s not green yet, but we spent the winter getting the Ecology Center Rooftop Outdoor Education Space at Spence 412 ready for planting this June. New York Green Roofs was chosen to realize the @nelsonbyrdwoltz design utilizing our signature custom precision. Fitting the concrete pavers, metal edging, and wood benches together has been a fun challenge, one that has required our talented techs to sharpen all the tools in our shed. Green roofs with a view #26 and #27. In case you need a good book to hunker down with this month, we highly suggest Urban Oasis, Tranquil Outdoor Spaces at Home by Rebecca Gross. Published in 2020, it features two of our favorite projects. We realized the @hmwhite_sa and @steveblatzarchitect design for Penthouse Paradise in 2013. In 2014 we joined @andrewfranzarchitect in a design/build capacity to transform Garden with a View from a blank terrace into a suburban sized backyard in the sky. Green Roof with a view #25. We are completely snowed in and out of the field at the moment, which leaves us time to reflect on all the hard work we put in this past year when the temps were warmer. Technical details for this hottie @hudsonsquareproperties 1 Hudson Square were designed in collaboration with @a_plus_i and painstakingly constructed with trusted vendors like @4thstatellc, who fabricated a half a mile of custom, powder coated, metal edging for us. Green Roof with a view #24. We’ve just completed a very special, extensive green roof installation in the Sugar Hill Neighborhood of Harlem. Though the build up is technically very simple and she doesn’t look like much now... watch out 2021... she’s going to do great things. On this Thanksgiving NYGR wants to express our gratitude to this collective of clients, a residential co-op, who have been pushing for this green roof for all the right reasons. Yes, the residents wan...ted a rooftop amenity space, but they also wanted to do their part for the greater good of NYC. And they embraced the fact that the two don’t have to be exclusive of one another. We don’t think you can separate quality design, quality materials, quality construction, and an appropriate maintenance program as factors in determining long term performance. But happiness also matters as an important performance metric. Update on Green roof with a view #13. #macysbrooklyn plantings went in with proper spacing to promote sound horticultural practice. Each plant needs a certain amount of room for their roots and shoots to maximize growth. We lovingly call this look hairplugs for men. While the green roof has gone dormant for the season, we look forward to next year’s growing season when we will continue to cultivate the garden so the building is eventually topped with a full head of thick, glossy hair... er, a lush meadow. #newyorkgreenroofs
