Eurasia Cultural Center opens in Murray Hill, Manhattan! On January 9 the Kyrgyz American Foundation officially opened the doors to its new Eurasia Cultural Cen...ter with a roundtable discussion entitled Central Asia 2020, featuring guest speakers Alexander Cooley, Director of The Harriman Institute at Columbia University and Andrew Wachtel, Rector of Narxoz University. The event focused on the challenges and opportunities facing Central Asia in 2020 and beyond. Among the topics discussed were Central Asia between Russia and China; prospects for change and growth in the economies of the region; and internal political and social developments in Central Asia. Housed on the second floor of the historic New York New Church at 114 East 35th Street between Park and Lexington Avenues, the KAF’s Eurasia Cultural Center will offer New York City unique cultural and educational programming, while also serving as home to a diverse Eurasian-American community. The center will bring together community members from throughout the New York Metropolitan Area for educational and cultural activities, including concerts, music, dance and language classes, masterclasses, film screenings, art exhibits, and lectures. The Center’s programming will also include regular seminars on immigration, health and human rights, conducted in partnership with the NYC Mayor’s Office of Immigration Affairs, Community Affairs Unit and NYC Thrive. The Eurasia Cultural Center was established by and is administered by the Kyrgyz American Foundation, with a mission to preserve and promote the multicultural heritage of Eurasian-Americans living in and contributing to the New York Community. We are delighted that after three years of hard work we finally have our own space says Aza Sydykov, co-founder and President of the Kyrgyz American Foundation. We are calling our new home the Eurasia Culture Center because we want to welcome local immigrants from the entire Eurasian region to share these beautiful facilities with us. Sydykov continues, Having a beautiful multifunctional space like our home gives our team the chance to realize fully our creative and artistic mission - that is to help enrich cultural diversity in New York City with first-class educational and cultural activities focused on the various heritages of Eurasia. We also strive to provide a useful cultural resource for the long-underserved Eurasian-American communities in the City. The foundation’s Director of Education and Academic Affairs, Dr. Andrew Wachtel, rolls out the welcome mat to possible collaborators: We invite all community-based cultural and academic organizations to work with us to offer special events and programming here in our beautiful home!
