#Repost @nycyouth Today is World Teachers Day! Educators steward the educational, social and emotional development of the next generation, a job which cannot be downplayed. This year, teachers all over the country faced an entirely new set of challenges, and had to adjust, FAST. There is no denying this is a terribly tumultuous time, but #DYCD wants all #NYCTeachers AND parents to know we see you, we appreciate you, and we are rooting for you. Amidst all of the uncertainty, you are educating, supporting, and empowering our young future leaders, all while coping with your own personal challenges during this pandemic. #DYCD thanks you for all that you do! @nycschools #WorldTeachersDay #Teachers #Educate #NYCSchools #nyc

On this clear day 9.11.2020, I’m reminded of the clear skies I saw exactly 19 years ago. I was three blocks away from where both towers stood. We will never forget our family and friends who perished on that day. - NIA President Michael A. Bove. Thank you to the hundreds of community members who joined us Friday night for our annual 9/11 Vigil in-person and virtually.... & Special thanks to NIA CEO Mary Anne Cino, our partners Senator Andrew Gounardes, Council Member Justin Brannan, NYC Parks, corporate sponsor Investors Bank, and to our participants Boy Scout Troops 13 & 715 and the Holy Cross Girl Scout Troop.

On this #InternationalLiteracyDay, we're giving thanks to our literacy staff who stepped up during this pandemic and swiftly transitioned into providing live instruction & pre-recorded lessons to our students. Because of them, we’re able to expand the Ready Readers program to more after school sites this year! ExpandED Schools And we know there is still so much more to be done - at least 781 million adults and young people around the world can't read or write. Here are some i...deas from GivingTuesday for ways you can make an impact on global literacy rates: Learn about who is most impacted by illiteracy around the globe. Support organizations that reach at-risk populations Donate books to a prison Volunteer in your own community. Even if you live in a neighborhood that doesn't seem to need literacy support at first glance, it's crucial to support reading and writing skills in all communities especially for underserved youth Celebrate literacy in your own life. Buy a book from a local writer or independent bookstore.
