Happy Birthday to Northwestern Mutual of Rochester...141 years !!! Thinking back in time...May 4th, 1880 who could have imagined this little insurance agency would grow to nearly 50 full time advisors, almost 100 employees, a top player in the insurance marketplace, now a top investment company and all the while having a massive impact in and around our community. Northwestern Mutual of Rochester’s rich history is tied deeply into the fabric of the areas growth and expansion.... The Erie Canal, the Genesee river and railways created the young lion called Rochester. NM had the foresight to set up shop here 141 years ago. Envision a bustling 1880’s Main Street complete with horse and buggy, elegant clothing, steam run automobiles, dirt roads. At a time when John Jacob Bausch and Henry Lomb were selling rubber eye glass frames and optical solutions. And Rufus Sibley was looking to establish a commercial goods store and when George Eastman was just bringing to market photographic film for early cinema and personal use cameras. C. Wilhelm and Josephine Zweigle sought to bring delicious old world meats to our area. It wouldn’t be for another 26 years when Haloid (now Xerox) was formed. Northwestern Mutual has been around for all of it and through it all remains dedicated to our original mission to be the strongest policy-owners company. AAA rated. Mutual. Fortune 100.
