The Noel Pointer Foundation to Receive $15,000 Grant from the National Endowment for the Arts Brooklyn/NYThe Noel Pointer Foundation has been approved for a $15,000 Grants for Arts Projects award to support On-Campus Strings Program. Taking place in the heart of Bedford Stuyvesant’s Restoration Plaza, this project will connect Central Brooklyn youth with world-class strings instruction and performance opportunities throughout the year. The Noel Pointer Foundation’s work meet...s a critical need for quality music instruction in neighborhoods that have been historically underserved and underfunded by the arts and is among the more than 1,100 projects across America totaling nearly $27 million that were selected during this second round of Grants for Arts Projects fiscal year 2021 funding. As the country and the arts sector begin to imagine returning to a post-pandemic world, the National Endowment for the Arts is proud to announce funding that will help arts organizations such as The Noel Pointer Foundation re-engage fully with partners and audiences, said NEA Acting Chairman Ann Eilers. Although the arts have sustained many during the pandemic, the chance to gather with one another and share arts experiences is its own necessity and pleasure. Despite the many benefits of music education on academics, cognitive ability, and even mental health, access is far from equal. The Noel Pointer Foundation is excited to partner with The National Endowment of the Arts as we break down these barriers and transform children’s lives through the transformative power of learning an instrument, explained Chinita Pointer, Executive Director of The Noel Pointer Foundation. NPF’s On-Campus Strings Programming takes place year-round through Saturday Strings, After-School Strings, and Summer Strings initiatives. Programming encompasses beginner through advanced instruction in violin, viola, cello, double bass, classical guitar, piano, composition, and music theory; one-on-one assistance with audition prep and placement into specialized schools; and performance opportunities citywide. Visits by professional musicians, field trips to concerts and cultural sites, and an audition-based performance ensemble empower students and cultivate a life-long love of music.
