A small project I finally got to in the midst of the big projects.

From an ongoing project I hope to post lots more pictures of. Wind uplift of the porch roof is a particular concern at the site, so I conceived of this detail to firmly resist that force. Blocks of 5/4 vinyl plank are lag-bolted to the post bottoms, then lagged down through the decking into the frame. The posts thus anchored stood firm with no bracing. (The decking is white cedar with a penetrating sealer applied. )

To drill, countersink and drive a hundred or so Tap-con screws to hold the subfloor to the concrete slab is no thrill.

Installing fascia and soffit the roof repair is a wrap.

The old skylight was cracked and, because of the inadequate framing, the sheathing had sagged, a gap had opened and in the winter let snowmelt in, making a general mess of the ceiling below. I’m too old for roofing; I was too old for roofing in my forties. But I fixed it.
