Once again, we have collectively witnessed the ways in which white supremacy continues to destroy lives and elicit fear within the Asian American and Pacific Islander community. What occurred this week in Atlanta, and what has been occurring throughout the United States at alarming rates, are hate crimes. They are not the product of a bad day. We must normalize naming white supremacy as the root of this violence, and continue to commit to its eradication. Normal Ave stands in solidarity with our AAPI artists and patrons, and continues our commitment to fostering an artistic community that is driven by values of safety and equity for all. -The Normal Ave Team

Signup: https://forms.gle/9GWANyK9ARFZgqNF9 Hi fam! We’re reaching out to say we miss you and we hope you’re doing okay. Oh- you mean the world sometimes feels like it’s imploding around you and your mental health might be in a somewhat constant state of flux? K, cool, us too. ... So here’s to some transparency: We’re not producing right now. We’re not gearing up for a virtual production. We’re not even really thinking about theater, tbh. Instead, we’re just trying to figure out how to take care of ourselves and our creative practice, and are missing you all desperately in the process. Our Normal Ave community has always beautifully held space for each other, whether in a rehearsal room, in our lobby after a show, or at a bar on 9th Ave. It’s what makes our artists and audiences so very special. And we think it’s about time to get the fu*king band back together. So next Monday, January 25 at 7pm, we’re opening up a Zoom Room, co-facilitated and guided by Julie Grant, a renowned creative healer from Seattle, and we’d love for you to join us. We’ll be talking about where we’re at and how we’re doing, but most importantly, we’ll be spitballing some ideas of what a virtual creative community space can look like for all of us. Maybe it’s a weekly hangout to just have some deep convos. Maybe we have guided meditations or journal prompting. Maybe we can convince Paige to host a yoga class for us. We want this to be a space where we can check in honestly, and take care of ourselves and each other. This isn’t a class. It’s not an audition. It’s definitely not a Zoom reading. It’s just us, as friends and fellow artists, making space. We’d love for you to join us, if you’re feeling called.

To Our Beloved Community, The murders of George Floyd, Ahmaud Arbery, Breonna Taylor, and countless others have left us outraged, distraught, and motivated to act. We cannot remain silent as we witness, once again, the systemic and pervasive disease that is white supremacy take another black life. As a primarily white organization that has historically produced plays written by and centered around primarily white individuals, we must do better. We must hold ourselves accounta...ble. We must put our programming, our voices, and our money where our hearts are. We promise to do the difficult work. We promise to step up. We promise to use our privilege as a means of action. We promise that it starts now, and does not end, not ever. In Solidarity, Normal Ave
