We’re witnessing an all-out assault on our democracy and we need to act swiftly to protect the sacred right to vote. We need the For the People Act and the John Lewis Voting Rights Act.
This Memorial Day we honored all service members who made the ultimate sacrifice in defense of freedom. We salute you all and may God bless each and everyone o...f these great Americans. On Staten Island we honor our fallen community members and respectfully walk down Forest Ave. and say thank you to everyone for honoring our fallen heroes. See more
Tune in as I give an update on our COVID-19 response and the vaccination program.

100 years ago, the thriving Black community of Greenwood in Tulsa, Oklahoma was ruthlessly attacked by a white supremacist mobas many as 300 Black Americans were killed and 10,000 were left homeless. Today, I’m visiting the Greenwood Cultural Center and meeting with survivors.
Happy Pride! To Staten Island's LGBTQ+ community: I see you, I swear to fight for you, and I can't wait to celebrate with you this month.
I’ve known Nicole for her whole life, I was actually at her 40 day churching, we attend the same church and are proud first generation scions of immigrants of Greece the country that founded Democracy. I will tell you privately she has expressed to me that she is terrified of these people, whom she made a devil’s bargain with to become a member of Congress. The problem with dealing with the devil is the Bill always comes due and the cost is always higher than you thought it ...would be, usually your soul. I am calling for her resignation, of someone I consider a friend. I do not do it lightly, her mother states she fled a dictator, yet her daughter supported the overthrow of the American Democracy, this precious 244 year experiment in self government, by a wanna be dictator and his lawless insurrectionists. She should be ashamed of herself. Less than 72 hours after swearing an oath to protect, defend and support the constitution of the United States of America, against enemies foreign and domestic, she violated that oath. She cannot continue in her office.
I’m trying to do everything I can to stay open. This is the only source of income for my family. If I close, I don’t know what I will do. I’m going to be 65 yea...rs old in June. I’d make Social Security, but honestly, it’s impossible to live on Social Security. With bills and property taxes, that won’t be enough. I have to work, said Vladimir Kiner, 64, owner of Bement Shoe Hospital. See more
If you are interested in getting the covid vaccine at the Gerald Carter Center call 1-833-766-6769. Must be 65 years and older or in groups 1a 1b. Special thanks to the governors office for working with us to open this site.
Today Assemblyman Charles D. Fall, myself, and other leaders in the community are holding the elected officials who went AGAINST their duty to uphold the consti...tution accountable, including our own Congresswoman, Nicole Malliotakis, who voted against the certification of both Arizona & Pennsylvania. We expect and deserve better. See more

As we begin our economic recovery from the COVID-19 pandemic, the new statewide pursuit of a transition to a clean energy grid is welcomed news. The economic op...portunities this transition will create are abundant and could not come at a better time. The announcement of this renewed pursuit and continued planning are promising for the people of Staten Island, opening the door for long-term job creation and an influx of new businesses and industries. As Chairman of the Assembly Energy Committee, I am dedicated to representing Staten Island’s best interests as I work on this pursuit in the new year. See more
I am thrilled that this man will be officially called leader. It is a characteristic that defined him even before it became a (future)title.
The comments that have recently come to light from Leticia Remauro are quite simply unacceptable. The words we use hold great importance, particularly as we wit...ness increased antisemitism. This hateful language has no place in our Borough or on our ballots. https://www.silive.com//officials-outraged-after-staten-is
They shattered windows to intimidate Democracy. They carried guns to silence our voice. They failed.... They failed in Georgia. They failed because the heart and power of true Democracy is not in Washington D.C. or the U.S. Capitol, but in our neighborhoods, towns, cities.
EDITORIAL "The freshman Congresswoman should face public rebuke both on the House floor, and by the voters in 2022."
Friends -- The events we watched in the capitol are not shocking, instead they are sad, and they tell us where we are, and where we need to go. This is not only... a failure of leadership, but it is a failure to hold leadership accountable to their actions, and their words. It is this same failure to hold systems accountable that allows the double standard we saw play out in the capitol today. What happened in Washington, D.C. was a display of the sickness we have to deal with in this country. It can only be cured by speaking truth to power, organizing and supporting each other, and electing new leadership. It is a watershed moment, but it is not a time for fear - it is a time to persevere in our goals of equity for all. Love will triumph over hate, and understanding over ignorance #ranti4si
What happened to the peaceful transfer of power? #notgood Trump and Pence silent as protestors storm the capital. Could you imagine if these were any other protestors but Trump supporters breaching the capital???? Unheard of... Armed standoff at the door of house floor...

I want to thank CVS Health District Manager #ChuckAgathangelou for meeting with me, President #NeilAnastasio from #ForestRegionalResidentsCivic, and #ErnieSetel...lo, to review a host of quality of life issues at 501 Forest Ave. We all want businesses to succeed, and we all strive to be good neighbors to one another. We appreciate Chuck's willingness to meet, listen, and work together to make West Brighton a cleaner and better place to live, work & play. See more
Like many of you, I was saddened yesterday to see the culmination of years of misinformation and gaslighting from the upper echelon of our federal government. W...hile I am thankful for the efforts of the Metro Police to limit the damage done to people and property, we cannot sit idly bye without calling this terrible action what it was: an act of sedition and insurrection by domestic terrorists. Congresswoman Nicole Malliotakis needs to immediately denounce the President for sparking this violence and accept responsibility for her role in inciting this attempted coup with her baseless attacks on the legitimacy of our election. We deserve a representative who knows that their words have meaning.
In other news, SI ... In addition to the NYC Health + Hospitals Gotham/Vanderbilt clinic, Staten Island will be getting three other vaccination hubs in the next... week. The Beacon Christian Community Health Center, located at 2079 Forest Ave. in Mariners Harbor, will begin taking appointments immediately for those eligible for vaccinations. Appointments can be made by calling 718-815-6560 or on the center’s online vaccination form, however, shortly after the site went live the website said it is no longer taking appointments at this time. By Friday, Jan. 15, Port Richmond High School, located at 85 St. Joseph’s Ave. in Port Richmond, and Staten Island Technical High School, located at 485 Clawson St. in New Dorp, will open as vaccination hubs, the mayor and city Health Commissioner Dr. Dave Chokshi announced Wednesday. De Blasio continues to say he wants to intensively speed up vaccinations and move to Phase 1b and 1c, with a special focus on seniors aged 75 and older, but cannot do so without further state expansion. My central concern is people over 75 -- they’re the most vulnerable in this crisis. We need the freedom and flexibility and that means reaching our seniors in need, de Blasio said. The city has also announced plans for mass vaccination sites in three of the five boroughs -- none yet on Staten Island -- and emphasized on Wednesday that all five boroughs would have a location identified. The mass vaccination sites differ from hubs because they will be open 24 hours a day, seven days a week, and will be designed to handle the highest possible volume of people. De Blasio said two sites are on Staten Island are currently being considered for mass vaccination sites, Richmond County Bank Park or the Staten Island Ferry Terminal.

Thank you Majority Leader Andrea Stewart-Cousins for reappointing me as Chair of the Senate Internet & Technology Committee. I am proud to have the opportunity to dig into these important issues as technology is an ever expanding industry which affects our every day lives.
What happened in Washington was pathetic and disgraceful. This is the direct result of those that continue to spread baseless & false info on our recent electio...n. They must be held accountable & consider growing a backbone at some point in their lives. The pervasive culture of misinformation needs to stop. See more
We cannot ignore the actions taken yesterday by those aiming to threaten our democracy, our public servants, and Capitol police. We need to hold accountable those who enabled these actions.
Statement of the five Staten Island Democratic club presidents on today's insurrection at the Capitol
What is happening in Washington D.C. today is unacceptable. Violence is never acceptable. Violence is never the solution. This must stop now. Our democracy and ...our democratic process is the defining characteristic of our nation and who we are as Americans. The chaos in Washington D.C. is endangering lives and forcefully disrupting our democratic process. What we are seeing unfold right now in our nation’s capital is fundamentally un-American. There is no excuse for this. See more
It took 10 years for Stacy Abrams to accomplish this. We can do it on Staten Island in less time if we start NOW! You can start by inviting every Staten Island Dem you know to join this group! https://www.nytimes.com//polit/stacey-abrams-georgia.html

Trump’s threat against the Secretary of State of Georgia is outrageous. It is the most consequential attack on American democracy in the history of our country.
This is what the Republican Party has become.
On this first day of 2021, I had the honor of taking the oath of office for a new term in the New York State Assembly administered by US District Judge Eric Vit...aliano. Thank you to the people of Staten Island for putting your trust in me. As a community, we’ve been through a lot in 2020, but I know we will be able to work together for a brighter 2021. Happy New Year!
Happy New Year Everyone! Wishing everyone a prosperous new year. I hope 2021 will be better than 2020
2020 has been a year unlike any we have experienced in our lifetime. I'm already seeing Christmas trees left out on the sidewalk (and half of them wrapped in plastic ) 1- The DSNY won't begin collecting trees for composting u...ntil Jan 4 (after mulchfest) so if you leave your tree out on the sidewalk now, it's simply going to end up in the dump 2- If you put it out on the sidewalk wrapped in plastic, it will definitely end up in the dump... along with the wasted plastic. I may be one of those grinches who thinks that Christmas trees are mainly just wasteful anyway but the least y'all can do is not send them to the dump when you're done with them!
Anne Taylor-Carsel, Esq., being sworn in today as Richmond County Commissioner on the NYC Board of Elections. Anne is the first woman of color appointed to thi...s prestigious position on Staten Island. Due to pandemic restrictions only one guest was allowed to view the swearing-in ceremony with Richmond County Clerk Stephen Fiala, and I am so honored to have been able to attend and record this historic event. Anne was the first woman to helm the Staten Island Women’s Bar Association when it was re-activated in the mid-2000’s, and was its first African-American president; she is also a fellow Soroptimist. Her legal career was spent working as a law clerk in the NYS court system. Prior to attending law school she had a successful career as a Librarian. Anne currently sits on the Board of Elections finishing out an unfinished term, and was selected as board chair for 2020. Congratulations to the Honorable Anne Taylor-Carsel, Commissioner, NYC Board of Elections! This year, 2020, is the year of the nurse. We took on things we never thought we’d see in our lifetime, said Deanna Bilotti, noting that during the second wave, the nurses are better equipped with PPE and there are less people on ventilators.

This morning I joined the MTA public hearing to oppose toll hikes and the proposal to eliminate the Staten Island residential discount. There’s only one bridge that connects our borough to the rest of the city and it’s critical that the discount and fares remain in place. #StatenIsland
Today I testified for the second time before the MTA leadership and board members to stress the importance of our Staten Island resident Verrazzano Bridge toll ...discount. The $5.50 discount which I worked with my colleagues to establish back in 2014 has benefited countless Staten Islanders over the years and it is crucial that the MTA not eliminate this essential relief from one of the highest tolls in the nation. With the news that the MTA will be receiving $4 billion in federal funding as part of the new stimulus package, there is even more reason why the Staten Island resident discount should remain intact. As we all navigate the COVID pandemic figuring out the welfare of our families, school for our children, and trying to pay our mortgages and rents, this possible elimination of the discount will be devastating to our families and businesses. Staten Islanders need this discount now more than ever! Thank you to all the Staten Islanders who have testified since Dec 1. It is important that our voices are heard. See more

This evening we stopped by the West Shore Inn to pick up dinner from our friend, West Shore Inn owner, Michael Strickland and to buy meals for the Staten Island...ers 4 Staten Island program. We also bought meals at three other local participating establishments including Bario's Restaurant and Catering, Jody's Club Forest and Joyce’s Tavern. During this holiday season it is important that we remember to give back to our community and support our local businesses. Special thanks to Eden II Programs, Pride Center of Staten Island, and Project Hospitality for creating such a great program and to all of the local establishments participating. The Staten Islanders 4 Staten Island program allows Staten Islanders to pay for a meal package at a participating local establishment to be donated to Project Hospitality.
