Northside Center for Child Development 01.11.2020

Northside is a beacon of hope for the 4,000 children and families who rely on us for mental health, education and enrichment services. The predominantly African-American and Latino families at Northside come from communities that have been disproportionately impacted by COVID-19, which is an extremely traumatic experience for impacted families. The need for our services is more urgent than ever before. This #GivingTuesdayNow please contribute to Northside’s COVID-19 Emergency Fund. Your gift will allow us to establish an emergency fund for COVID-19 so that our services can continue.

May is #mentalhealthawareness month, and we’d like to remind you to take care of yourself and your loved ones. It's understandable to feel anxious or depressed right now. As we continue social distancing #mentalwellness is even more important now than before. Northside encourages everyone to meditate, take walks and exercise. If you need assistance, reach out to us at 212-426-3400 to schedule a remote therapy session with a clinician from our Behavioral Health Clinic.

This #GivingTuesday help Northside's children reach their full potential. Your gift can provide much needed education and enrichment programming to thousands of children who rely on Northside. Thanks to Northside, I feel better able to manage stress, and prepared to go away to school and study to be a veterinarian. - Alex* Please join us today by investing in the potential of children, like Alex, so that they can live a life limited only by the scope of their dreams. Donate... Now. Your gift means so much to us and Northside's children. Thank you. *name changed to protect confidentiality

On Monday, Northside Center’s Hilde L. Mosse Executive Director and CEO Dr. Thelma Dye was honored to join the New York State Board of Regents meeting in Albany for a resolution in recognition of Northside Co-Founder and New York State Regent Emeritus Kenneth B. Clark. In celebration of Dr. Clark’s lifetime of service to the people of New York State and this nation and in honor of Black History Month, the Board of Regents unveiled two panels that will be installed at the Cla...rk Auditorium at the New York State Museum, Cultural Education Center in Albany. Northside Center’s Founders Drs. Mamie and Kenneth Clark were pioneering psychologists whose research, the Black/White Doll studies was used in the 1954 Landmark Supreme Court case Brown versus Board of Education to legally end segregation in US public schools. Dr. Kenneth Clark was the first African-American elected to the New York State Board of Regents, a post he held from 1966-1986. We continue to honor the Clarks’ legacy every day at Northside with our life-changing education, mental health, and recreational programming for children and families. Thank you to the New York State Board of Regents, the Chancellor and to the New York State Museum for continuing to honor the groundbreaking legacy of our Founders.
