Dear New Paltz Families and Friends, We hope everyone is staying healthy and safe. Because school has been cancelled for the rest of the year, our annual spring dinner and wine tasting fundraiser has been cancelled. We are hoping to have an online auction of some kind so we can keep supporting school programs and have some fun! Keep an eye out for that in the next few weeks. ... Take care, The Board of the NPCSD Foundation for Student Enhancement
Project Spotlight: Trout in the Classroom Submitted by Carrie Bryant and Kathryn Gulitti of Duzine Elementary School, the Trout in the Classroom project began in October. Over the last few months, second graders have been raising trout eggs into fingerlings and watching their development. In early spring, they will release the fish into a local stream habitat (location will be determined with DEC approval). The experience will teach topics ranging from trout life cycles to habitats and water quality. Through the care and study of live animals and their surroundings, students will ideally develop a stewardship ethic toward local natural habitats. The tank is located in the shared science room, enabling all second grade classes to participate.
Enabling equity through reading: The Feed Your Mind project Our first project spotlight is Feed Your Mind, an elementary school collaboration submitted to us by Sarah Sebald, Kristian Anderson, Meri Lederer, Brittany McIlwee, Renee Reynolds, Katie Losee, Michaela Schaller, and Elizabeth Rizza. Feed Your Mind enables students at Duzine and Lenape from lower socioeconomic backgrounds to receive a hand-picked selection of appropriate-leveled books when school is not in ses...sion. The books will help maintain reading levels during breaks by providing customized reading materials to students who might not have access to these books otherwise. Begun in summer 2019, this continuing project now includes winter and spring breaks. Congratulations on this successful joint effort and thank you for all the work you do for New Paltz Central School District students! See more
What do trout, ukuleles, Shakespeare assemblies, camcorders, gardening supplies, 3D printers, sound equipment, and books have in common? They are all projects that have been funded by the New Paltz Central School District Foundation for Student Enhancement. Since January 2018, the Foundation has provided more than $25,000 in funding for teacher-led projects in all four district schools. Over the next few months, we will be highlighting some of the projects the Foundation has funded so you know the value your donations have on our students and community. Follow along to learn more!
