NYSPIA members from Troop E VGNET led the charge on this difficult and complex investigation into a large scale drug conspiracy in the greater Rochester area. During the course of their investigation they learned that one of the suspects was the Mayor of Rochester’s husband, Timothy Granison. A search warrant was executed on their residence which resulted in the recovery of an illegal handgun and a quantity of cocaine. Our members are often tasked with the most difficult investigations statewide and they repeatedly come through with impressive results no matter how many obstacles are in their way. We appreciate your hard work and sacrifice!

This past Saturday, several NYSPIA members, along with friends and family of the late Investigator Brooke M. Perkins met at the Machias Barracks (Troop A, Zone IV), to create the Investigator Brooke M. Perkins Memorial Flower Garden. Brooke, who recently passed away after a hard fought battle with cancer, was a fixture at the Machias Barracks and surrounding community. Many thanks to everyone who contributed to making the garden! NYSPIA is proud to support the project with a financial donation and is happy to have such great and caring members!

I would like to wish a very Happy Mother’s Day to all the NYSPIA moms out there. To the member’s jockeying cases, making arrests while running a household, we salute you. To all the member’s mom’s who worry every day knowing their son or daughter chose a profession that deals with the very worst society has to offer, we salute you. Your sacrifice does not go unnoticed. I strongly believe that the most important traits of successful police officers are learned at home from their parents not from inside a police academy. -- President Tim Dymond

To all members of the Law Enforcement Community, I woke up to a bitter cold New York winter morning. My family enjoyed a peaceful Saturday; including hot coffee in front of the fireplace, some light reading, and discussion of when we would head to the ice skating rink. We were safe. We were warm. Most importantly, we were together. Mornings like this are when I reflect most on how incredibly lucky we are. So many in the Law Enforcement Community are not. I’m not simply... referring to the thousands of law enforcement officers killed over the years, though they made the ultimate sacrifice. I’m reflecting on the officers giving of themselves at this very moment, sacrificing for others as I type this message. Officers working homicide scenes in bitter cold. Officers responding to violent domestic disputes. Officers making death notifications to parents waiting for their son or daughter to arrive home after a night out. Officers looking for lost children who won’t last long in these frigid temperatures. Officers pulling up to horrific accident scenes, greeted by the smell of blood and antifreeze, with bystanders looking to them to fix an unfixable situation. The tremendous mental weight of this self-imposed duty lost on many of those citizens they serve. Officers in corrections spending their morning surrounded by some of the most violent people this world has to offer, hoping things stay calm so they can get home to their families. Officers coming off the night shift, unable to sleep because of the horrors they saw just hours earlier. Officers working protests, while getting spit on and screamed at simply for wearing a uniform. Officers watching their own lives fall apart while trying to keep everyone else’s together. The tremendous sacrifice all Law Enforcement Officers make must not be in vain. It must not be forgotten. Law enforcement officers represent the very best our country has to offer. A group of individuals that put other Americans before themselves. You see, the world will never be fully rid of evil people. We will always need brave men and women to answer the call. We will always need law enforcement officers. We are forever indebted to the people that keep us safe. Thank you. Blessed are the peace makers

Today we received the tragic news about the line of duty death of Trooper Jennifer M. Czarnecki on December 5, 2020, from an illness stemming from her assignment to the World Trade Center site following the terrorist attacks on September 11, 2001. Too many of our fellow Troopers and first responders have died due to 9/11 related illnesses. They truly made the ultimate sacrifice and we share our deepest sympathy and condolences for Trooper Czarnecki’s family and loved ones that she leaves behind.

From President Tim Dymond: "On behalf of the NYSPIA Board of Directors I would like to wish everyone a Happy Thanksgiving. 2020 has been a challenging year with so much struggle, heartache and loss. Our society has been pushed to the limit and tested in a way most haven’t seen since 9/11. So why be thankful? Well, as my late mother used to say during hard times, be thankful for what you have because someone out there is going through worse. Those words were hard to und...erstand as a child but now they make perfect sense. Because as you read this email someone out there is having their worst day. Someone out there is saying goodbye to a loved one for the last time. A soldier out there is deployed halfway across the world, hungry and tired, fighting to protect us so we can have a day of rest and family time. A police officer somewhere is in the middle of a violent domestic trying to get home to his family at the end of tour to have his/her Thanksgiving. Be thankful for the absolute blessing of living in the greatest nation, filled with and protected by, the most amazing people, for another day. Cheers to a happy and healthy Thanksgiving to you and your loved ones!" See more
