In this year of 2020, we have witnessed the largest and most sustained round of police protests this country has seen since the 1960's. Amidst nationwide demands for racial justice, experts and organizers are discussing how to bring about police reform. This transformation is necessary, but we must also grapple with how Black communities can empower themselves to address this long standing problem of police brutality/violence and heal from the subsequent racial trauma. Join N...YABPsi for an interdisciplinary panel addressing the history of policing in Black communities, its psychological impact, and systemic and community-based efforts towards reform and healing from racial trauma. In the spirit of Kwanzaa and the principles of Umoja (Unity) and Kujichagulia (Self-Determination), we recognize that we MUST come together to problem-solve and take control over our collective future. The panel will be followed by a virtual Kwanzaa ceremony to reinforce traditional African values that can strengthen Black communities. FREE and open to the community! (6-7:30pm Panel ; 7:30-8pm Kwanzaa Ceremony) Links Zoom meeting registration link: https://bit.ly/NYABPsi12 Link to the event page on our website: http://nyabpsi.org//policing-in-black-communitiesmaking-i/ Link to bios of panelists and moderators on our website: http://nyabpsi.org/meet-the-panelists-for-our-12-12-kwanza/ See more
