While these problems are complex and often originate outside the school, they present themselves in schools every day.

Tomorrow, November 6, 2018 is Election Day across the country, where a number of statewide elections will be contested. This is not a post for you to vote for ...one specific party or another, but it is very important that our elected officials see that school psychologists vote, and vote frequently. This is one of the most important ways that we can advocate for children, schools, and the broader educational community. When possible, you should investigate candidates' stances on education, healthcare, and other issues that affect the children that we work with, and see that they measure up to the professional positions of the New York Association of School Psychologists - NYASP as well as the National Association of School Psychologists. We wanted to introduce you to a great resource named Ballotpedia - a free public service that provides you with a list of which candidates are running in your area, district and across the state (no registration is required but you do need to enter your address to take full advantage of the site). You'll also have access to what a sample ballot will look like in your area as well, including candidates and links to their position papers (when available). Many municipalities and cities across the state also have ballot measures and/or referenda that are to be voted upon.
