NYC Ice Dance 09.11.2020

I'm sorry to say that our weekly ice dance session at the World Ice Arena was cancelled a few year ago because we could not get a 12 skater average a week in the NYC area to come to it.

Fake news got you in the dumps? Bill Moyers curates 10 credible investigative reporting outlets to follow. Two of our favorites: The Intercept, ProPublica.

Do you think that Trump is rattled these days? I sure do. In this video Trump holds a White House ceremony to sign his most recent Executive Order, gives his speech about it, then walks out of the room without signing the document! Lol, what an idiot!

Hi all, is there any interest in doing some social ice dance in the NYC area in 2017?

I just spoke with Elisa Angeli and she is going to start coming to our session again begining this coming Sunday Sept 19th. Anyone who wants some of her coaching time should speak up right away as many of us love her coaching and love to skate with her as well. She said that she will be around until the end of November or early December and then head back to Europe for some more ice shows.

I got the word from our rink that we have the ice dance session every weekend until at least the end of the year including Labor Day weekend. We do share it with skaters who are doing MITF and this last Sunday there was twice as many of them as there were ice dancers! Not the trend I want to see but at least someone is using the ice time.

This last week we had way more men than women so all you women who say that there never are any men to skate with should come on down and have some fun. Six of the girls from Figure Skating In Harlem were there with their coach Katie. Mostly they were doing MITF but they did a little dance and, if they keep coming, and doing some ice dance while they are there, they'll be up to speed in no time.

I checked in on the "Every Sunday Social Ice Dance" session at World Ice after I got back from the Nutmeg Ice Dance Weekend (July 18th) and saw that there were 12 skaters on the ice. Not too bad since several of us were away at the IDW. Jim McNab was there and said that he is planning to be back next Sunday as well and I know that some of the women in the past have said that he is a lot of fun to skate with.

We're back on the ice this coming Sunday (July 11th, 5pm, World Ice Arena). Anyone want to join us for some fun social ice dance? It's a very informal session and we'd be glad to show you the steps to some of the beginning dances. There is a sharp learning curve at the beginning and it does take awhile to not have to think about every step but after that, social ice dance is a lot of fun.

The World Ice Arena is closed this coming Sunday (July 4th) so we don't have a social ice dance session this weekend but we'll be back on the ice every Sunday after that all Summer long. Ice dance is the "coolest" thing that one can do on a hot Summer afternoon.

A new female coach, Ekaterina Semoukhina, is coming to our session and I'm putting the word out in case any of you would like to take some time with her. Katya is a USFSA Gold Medalist and has most recently been a coach at Chelsea Piers. Before that she skated with the Ice Theater of NY. Her coaching rate is $96.00 an hour and she will start coming this Sunday. Katya will be with us only until the end of July.

We had 19 skaters at the "Every Sunday Social Ice Dance" session today and it felt pretty busy out there. We could still handle a few more skaters but we're getting close to full if we could get this many every time. Our recent Facebook ad was shown to 110,000 skaters who live within 25 miles of the rink and I don't think any of them have shown up at the session yet.

We're always looking for more skaters who want to learn how to ice dance to come to our once a week session on a regular basis. You have to be a pretty strong skater and it takes awhile to learn the steps but ice dance is lots of fun, great exercise and a really "cool" way to beat the heat. We're skating every Sunday afternoon 5pm at the World Ice Arena all Summer long.
